Any chance Landrieu comes out as part-black to catapult presidential run?

"Coming out" is all the rage these days, whether as gay or trans, etc. Since Landrieu has nothing of substance to run on, any chance he lines up a Big Media interview for a "major announcement" and reveals that he is in fact part-black, but the entrenched, systemic racism of evil white Jim Crow New Orleans forced his family to "passe blanc" for more than a century, and only now does he feel comfortable in his own skin -- "safe" enough to "come out"? And how his monument takedown wasn't necessarily driven by Wynton Marsalis and Walty Isaacson but his own internal revulsion, knowing where he really came from all these years? Imagine the publicity he might get from such a bombshell, all the while diverting attention from his lack of a productive record in office. The sitdowns with Katie Couric, Oprah, Rachel Maddow, and NPR. The story then becomes about a major political family who did so much for their fellow citizens and black soulmates, all the while keeping a dark secret. The Landrieus "couldn't be themselves" because of societal-imposed shame, and now that he's running for president, he feels compelled to "come clean" and "be honest with the American people." Thus, he represents a truly "diverse" candidate who represents the interests of the majority of America's races. Hey, it might beat talking about potholes, corruption, Third World conditions, and Rwanda-level murder statistics. He can also blame not carrying his own state on his racial revelation -- "all those white crackers won't vote for me now."

Hey, you heard it here first. Otherwise, Landrieu is just another privileged white male from a multi-generational political family running for office with no perceivable accomplishments under his belt.

Great idea - he could have Elizabeth Warren as his running mate and they would have 3 constituencies sewed up.

During the recent monument controversy, some people were posting census records of his verified ancestors. His French ancestor who came in the late 1800s apparently married a black woman, but subsequent generations changed their race to the U.S. Census Bureau to white instead of colored. That was the first semi-official info I'd ever seen. Otherwise, the rumors have floated around for years. Frankly, his race is immaterial to me -- I despise him for his pandering, incompetence, and corruption. I am just wondering whether he will turn conventional thinking on its head and milk this rumor for political capital, given today's overwhelming politically correct climate of "white = evil" and "black = good."

Truth be told, a lot New Orleans blue blood families have black ancestry. Most are very reluctant to talk about it or even acknowledge it.

I've wondered this myself. You know he's angling for something, especially with the longstanding landrieu tradition of self-service.

Regarding jazz musician Wynton Marsalis' role in monument removal, here is a Hayride article: LINK
