Had a job offer with the plant itself (not a contractor) but turned it down

Did they drag you out with four or five interviews?

I was somewhat involved with a turnaround down at P66 Alliance back around 2014 or so. Some really spart folks way up high in that company thought it would be a good idea to have a TA (with major projects within) start during Mardi Gras. They also thought they could pay normal rates and didn't care that there were TA and projects happening all over east TX and south La. People were having to stay at hotels near the Kenner airport. Some of those guys quit the first week due to the horrible commute. Many contractors were forced to take a bus from about 7 miles away and management was damn firm on the request that the baws had to sit 2 to a seat on those damn school busses. Some quit because of this crap. shite quality, shite moral, and a beyond fricked up TA and project that went weeks over schedule and millions over budget. And even back then the traffic would suck badly in the afternoons heading back to Nola.

I worked for P66 major projects during the time frame you mentioned above. Wasn’t exactly as you mentioned from my recollection but was a huge cluster for sure. They tried to pay extra on several crafts to get people but it’s not an easy area to get workers due to being further south than other plants and lack of housing in Belle Chasse. I was in the TA planning meetings. TA was 6k people which is massive for a size of that plant and got out of hand for their capabilities and planning. They also went too long in the past without major turnarounds. They really didn’t invest heavy in Alliance and was trying to sell it for way before hurricane ida. I heard rumors from reputable people that they were trying to sell it prior to 2010. It was always said within P66 that it was a maintenance monster and was probably their least profitable plant.

I also worked for Venture Global in Cameron at CPLNG and started out the project in Port Sulphur at the very beginning. On my end (projects), they were a difficult company to work for. Lots of pressure put on the employees and tons of hours expected. Working 60+ hours for years can get old. It was a good experience but glad I didn’t stay after it ramped up and became a cluster. Could already see signs of it being a cluster while working in the beginning with KZJV.

This was common for their hiring process. I couldn’t get any help at PLNG when things started ramping up and they took 6+ months to hire anyone. Most of the time by the time it made it through the HR nightmare, the people would give up or find a job elsewhere.

So I’m sure you remember maintenance manager Karen who was a complete dumbass.
And during all of this, the plant manager took a job with another company but was willing to stay on to help the plant through this period, but the fine folks higher up the chain liked the other idea better of sending someone down there to escort the GM off the site immediately.

I remember her well! She got moved around within the company after that mess of a turnaround.

Yes I remember this also. He went to be plant manager at Motiva in Port Arthur. That was P66’s policy, once you resigned or were fired or laid off, they wanted you off the premises right away. I don’t agree with that approach but I’ve seen them do that type of thing at multiple sites. They would have been better off letting him stay for sure.
