Leopards are pound for pound the strongest of the cats.

Pecker, are the Amur a subspecies of the clouded?

Yeah I know, but this one is closer to other cats than Leopards. It's also just crazy compact.

Very cool.

They used to be pretty regular, then there was a hiatus...

Animal Talk isn't just something that can be slapped together haphazardly on a daily basis. Much thought, research, and preparation goes into these majestic threads

My wife and I did a private tour of the SD Zoo on our honeymoon and saw animals up close. One was the clouded leopard, and that's what jumped out at me too.

They are small cats, but have huge paws and they look powerful as ****. I recommend that tour to people all the time. It was awesome.

Just curious, what’s your selection process for these thread?
Meaning where do you hear about theses animals? I’ve never heard of this particular cat. Very interesting.

I don't pick and choose about which animals I write. The universe speaks to me through visions. I share with you, what the cosmos shares with me.

Exactly. I’m curious to know how he goes about selecting which animal to showcase? Does he just Google exotic and strange animals?

From Wiki:

quote:

The clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) is a wild cat occurring from the Himalayan foothills through mainland Southeast Asia into China. Since 2008, it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN [International Union for Conservation of Nature] Red List. Its total population is suspected to be fewer than 10,000 mature individuals, with a decreasing population trend, and no single population numbering more than 1,000 adults.

That's pretty damn cool.

I'm not a big zoo guy though. I always get depressed to see animals like this restricted to a zoo. Obviously its a different story if born in captivity because they can't be released in the wild, so I get it.

It would be hard to get depressed looking at the habitats the animals live in at the San Diego zoo

I've been.

They're super nice habitats and I'm not a "free all the animals" kind of looney toon. Them being restricted by walls for some reason just depresses me

Its like if your house was awesome with a beautiful view, huge yard, all your food provided, and a full staff to take care of you, you'd still want to leave sometimes.

At home in the trees, the Clouded Leopard is capable of hanging straight down from tree branches using only its long tail and hind legs for support. They can climb horizontal tree branches with their backs to the ground, and can run and jump on those branches while inverted. Resting in trees during the daytime, these cats are most active as hunters after dark. They can hunt in the trees, ambushing prey below, or use their speed and agility to stalk prey on the ground.

Jesus....thats a hunting machine.
