No, he didn't.
There isn't a single medmal claims agent in this country that would have agreed to a settlement on the claim against Dr. Shah, assuming the printed story is accurate. HE was dropped as defendant b/c there was no case against him.
It's not the docs money paying for a settlement.
She worked for him. In some way he was responsible is what Pax is getting at. He is the GI. He paid somehow;if not by higher premiums via his employee.
He fired her and saved his arse.
He is probably still working and fine.
She has been running around the country for jobs.

Besides, I don't know any poor docs other than the ones that took their fortune from practicing medicine then blew it on bad investments.
How many people do you know with 8-10 years of post graduate training that are poor? Education allows the development of knowledge and skills, in any field. This generally leads to high paying jobs. Couple that with working 60 hrs or so a week, and you can expect a successful career.

And as for what it should cost? I'll open up with what premiums were ten years ago plus annual adjustment for inflation. I'd go for that.
You don't think healthcare advances/technological changes have occurred in the past 10 years? Hell, iPhones have only been out since 2007. Forget the fact that Dr's are also paying outrageous insurance premiums as well, and some are forced to practice cover your arse medicine. Thank lawyers and a sue happy society for that.

all of that school, studying, money, and time only to take a sledgehammer to her career joking around.

What? No! There is not a chance in hell that the anesthesiologist was an employee of that physician or his practice.
Anesthesia at ASC's are either provided by individual contractors recruited by the ASC (where ASC bills for anesthesia), or an anesthesiology group contracted with the ASC (group bills for anesthesia).
They each have their own NPI, their own practice, and their own medmal coverage. The plaintiff will add as many entities onto the suit as possible to create maximum payout, and those entities are dismissed as the case progresses.
For example, the last suit against one of my former GI's brought claims against the doctor, practice, facility, CRNA, facility admin, charge nurse, and 2 endo techs.
Only the physician remained by the time the case was non-suited.
That GI had nothing to do with the anesthesiologist current employment issues. This case coming up during every credentialing process she applies for is why she can't get a job. The case is in a federal database and available for all hiring hospitals or ASC's to see.

Give them a break. They take fat strangers and stick a tube up their arse all day long. Any sane person who does that need some humor to get through the day. I couldn't do it without alcohol.

Never woulda guessed it.

And, if you would hear me talk, I wouldn't really come off as a "cajun".
