Predatory practices

A couple of friends of my son made good money selling Cutco part time in college. I know one made probably $15,000 in just half a summer. Not sure how much more he made that summer, but he put a good dent in the cost of dental school selling Cutco through college.
I'm not a fan of the marketing style, but there is some money to be made and some people really like the product.

These companies are ALL over Facebook lately. May have to start de-friending people. They actually believe their own hype.

The karate organization my kid belongs to is a major pyramid scheme. One hand feeds the other from the bottom rung all the way to the top. They all get a piece of everything - tuition, promotion fees, tournament money - everyone gets their piece at every level. And who is at the base of the scheme? The kids. The good ones are all conned into the "instructor training program" and they will spend their teen years teaching for free to earn their hours. Yet before they become a full instructor, 99.9% of them will move on to college and never step into a karate school another day in their life.
