So my question is why are MLMs necessarily bad

Mary Kay, pampered chef, and other products like that are seemingly very good products. So if someone desires to sell those products via direct marketing or whatever, why is that bad.

It's one thing to be in a MLM that doesn't have a real product or is scammy in nature, but if the products are good and people like them then what's the harm

My wife got suckered into winning a "raffle" and the prize was a home visit by this yokel. 90 minutes of him giving every sob story about how if we don't buy from him he can't make any money. I was so close to laugh in the guy's face.

We did get an air freshener thing that we never use, so I guess it was worth it.

It's just annoying to get hit up by friends and family members for this stuff.

It places you in an awkward situation that is all.

It's one thing if I'm actively looking for say...face care and I seek out my friend that I know sells it. It's another to be guilted into going to parties she puts on to sell the stuff...knowing I'm gonna feel obligated to buy something since I did waste my Sat afternoon going to the stupid party.

You know MANY people making 250-500k+ off MLMs? You do realize that lying about how well you do in MLMs is part of being involved in MLMs.

Much like in the rest of the world, the dollars flow upward.

And with fb nowadays, you can't scroll your wall without seeing several posts from these "salespeople" raving about how this or that product changed their life, blah, blah, blah.

Quickly makes you just ignore their posts.

I can understand that. I guess my thoughts just are money goes to one place or another and if someone likes the products then spend the money. But I can definitely see the guilt tripping and nagging getting aggravating

It does not fit my personality to pursue people to buy into these, but I personally know many people making over 250k and a couple over 500k in some of these "schemes

Several of my friends wives were involved in various MLMs, and claimed income to be over 100K. After asking a few questions it was obvious they had no concept of the difference between net and gross profit, and I could never get the ones in Mary Kay to understand that the "free" car was not free. The stated earnings from someone doing MLM seem to be about as accurate as the claimed winnings of a regular casino patron.

Military bases are hotbeds for pyramid schemes with all these stay at home spouses involved in them. No joke, my wife made friends at our bases and got invited to these "sales parties" for two months straight. There are some decent ones that aren't high pressure pyramid schemes and are decent products like Pampered Chef, Scentsy, and Slumber Parties (sex toys) but there are some that are hardcore like Advocare, Plexus, Beachbody, DoTerra, and It Works Wraps. What's funny is the majority of the chicks selling Advocare and Beachbody are obese women!

Good thing my wife has sense and doesn't go to any of these parties, except the sex toy parties because she has fun at them and there's no pressure. If I were her I would tell these chicks, you won't make many friends selling useless crap.

My cousin is pretty overweight and just became a Beachbody "coach". I applaud her for taking strides to become healthy(she is doing 21 day fix and is going to the gym now and actually losing some weight), but....she isn't a fitness expert by any means.

Course I think many people become Beachbody coaches for the discounts they get on products.

That's why I became one initially.

How good is 21 Day Fix compared to the other Beach Body workout/diet programs?

I like it a lot because it really addresses what is typically the biggest problem for people trying to lose weight....portion control.

And the fact that it can actually be done by people of different fitness levels makes it appealing to many.

The videos aren't bad either. I'm currently doing T25 videos with the 21 day fix meal plan to see if I get better results.

Also....21 day fix is cheap compared to other programs.

Personally, I find the business model to be somewhat exploitative--boarderline unethical even.

I've seen a few posts like this. I don't have any friends like this in my feed. Or maybe I'm just not seeing them.

I just watched a YouTube video about it and seems very easy/user-friendly to follow. I like that you can go out to eat as long as you're eating within your portions and food groups/containers...Oh and I like the idea of substituting a carb container 3 times a week for the little orange container filled with chocolate or another mini dessert. . Lately I've just been low carbing it and working out at the gym but I think I need a change up in my routine.

Exploitative... because it acts on approaching those people close to you in your life?

Why unethical?

Are some MLM's more ethical than others, or less exploitative?
