Select/Travel ball just fails.
Non-select baws were athletes who play more than one sport.

So, your kid didn't get picked to be on a select/travel team.

sorry bro, there were scouts attending Paxton's practice that day

Team had a Group Me text, some of the moms called out the parents of the kid that didn't show and it got pretty nasty...

I kept my mouth shut...

I have read this post 5 times and have no idea what he is trying to say. Travel baseball has ruined the sport.

My kids rec ball team lost in the playoffs because one of the travel ball kids didn't show up because he had travel ball "practice".

He was up to pitch being the second pitcher on the team. Kid pitching walked all opposing team's runs in. I realize one kid doesn't make the team, but when you're depending on the kid to pitch and he doesn't show, it sucks.

I think that's pretty fricked up that the parent didnt let the coach know he wasnt going to be available for the playoff game....which is hard to believe that a kid would miss a playoff game for practice....especially if he slated to pitch

I know a lady in E. Texas, her grandson plays on a 6U tee ball travel team. They get rings. It makes no sense.

The cringe in this comment is palpable.

not really. i thought for a long time....it wasnt that big of a difference and didnt matter for high school ball....yea i was wrong.

its gottent o the point skill level and general strength wise, atleast at the really good schools, if you are not playing high level ball and lifting and taking private lessons....its almost impossible to even make the high school team.

Not the case on many of the small schools, but for those like Barbe, Sam Houston, Jesuit, West Monroe.....yea, it unfortunately is.

They told the coach the day before, but we found out the day of the game why he missed... Coach was pissed.

I feel like MLB arms are usually shot due to all the travel ball kids play. Most of those younger MLBers probably played travel ball if I had to guess. Can’t be good for the wear and tear of an arm.

damn, this has come a long way, completely unheard of in my day, we had a really good hs baseball team but also had a really good football team, baseball would suffer a bit because some of the best athletes that weren't seniors would be at spring practice for football, baseball was more or less something to do when you were a senior and didn't have spring football practice

If you are playing on a competitive travel ball team, I dont see how you have time to play rec ball too. Or why you would even want to.

English would suffice.

Having said this, sounds like your kid is not "select" quality and you hold bitterness.

Who cares, they're 10

We are out of Mississippi but play a lot in Louisiana as well. Coach encourages playing other sports and willingly works around other sports schedules. We still played around 40 games this spring season

My kid loves playing baseball. He’s also a banner/honor roll kid at a magnet school. He’s working hard to get better and is tired of playing for teams in rec with kids that don’t want to be there and no one has aspirations of MLB.

What do you suggest?

All Star team of mixed select/travel and rec baws.

$1500 for select/travel ball that isn’t better played at 10 yews old.
I don’t think so.
