Why does La try to be so shitty?
Because people were stupid enough to vote for a bumbling idiot just because Vitter cheated on his wife 15 years ago.

allegedly conservative state
Or you can look at it as this conservative state chose to kill this snowflake movement in the womb before it could spread it's infection to the great state of Alabama. We will not cave to demands rooted in faux outrage and and the consideration of "feelings"
This is the difference between proactive and reactive

I just think it's funny that a lot of Southern Republicans claim to hate government regulation and interference but cheer for it if it benefits them. Like the unemployed redneck that hates paying taxes but loves his federal disability check.

...or liberals who love such things, unless it benefits the other side.

Does UA have any controversial statues on campus? I doubt statues in Montgomery would ever effect athletics.

Misguided, but not hypocrites in that sense at least.

How do you like Huntsville? My parents are moving up there next month
It's nice. I'm originally from Sulphur..and lived near Houston from 1997-2002. It's quiet up here. Not much crime but it's increasing some. There's be a rash of high potency heroin come in lately that I think fuels the crime rate a bit. The police are pretty good. We get 4 seasons for the most part...so that's nice. It'll never hold much of a professional team here since it's more family oriented..and more "soccer moms" that wanna see their children play rather than a pro. Tornadoes can be bad from March to May and then again Sept and Oct.
Also..10 hours from here gets you anywhere just about driving. 6 will get you to damn near New Orleans.
The major drawback (and this is because I come from a predominant Catholic area of SWLA)....there's no culture here. It's a desert. Mostly German if anything. There's no identity with anything. But to live...it's not bad.

Alabamians dont play that shite. They tore down a Nathan Bedford Forrest monument in selma and it was replaced with a shiny new one a few months later. Selma is 80% black, and Forrest was definitely in the Klan in addition to being a confederate general.
The monument still stands, amongst a sea of tiny confederate flags planted in the ground around it
Nathan Bedford Forrest actually surrendered just a few miles from my farm. I understand he was the last Confederate General to surrender in the war. There is a confederate cemetery there with a cannon that at the end of the war was dropped into the river to keep it out of the hands of the Yankees. Years later the people of Gainsville got the cannon out of the river and placed it in the cemetery. It is a really interesting place.
Gainsville (Population 208) at one time was the 4th largest city in Alabama (approximately 4000 people).
Here is the cemetery

He's a very interesting dude. Sherman called him "the most remarkable man our war produced, on either side"
Grant called him "that devil Forrest" and he's considered one of the most brilliant military tacticians in American history. The most unique thing about that is that he had no military training. He volunteered for the war as a very wealthy cotton farmer and slave trader and rose from private to general. A poster earlier suggested I read up on Forrest, but I did that a long time ago. I'm fully aware that he tried to ease racial tensions, but that came much later in life. The black community today doesn't give a shite about that. He was in the Ku Klux Klan and was a former slave trader, to them that trumps any changes of heart he might've had later in life. So to CollegeDropout, I suggest you get your head out of your arse and join us in the real world where former white slave owners and traders are all considered equally evil in the black community

Yeah and Gainsville is only about 10 minutes from 20\59. If anyone has time coming from LA to Tuscaloosa I think it is worth a stop. Just a few minutes and a pretty cool place to see.
