Not quite as long for me but almost. I left Germany 11 years ago and have been trying to figure out how to move back ever since.

Drill Sgt. Wallace would first stomp a mud hole in your arse then walk it dry. And then he would smoke you "like a cheap cigar" until "he got tired". And all the while he'd call you "Boy".

I left Germany in late 1990 heading for the desert. Still miss it sometimes.

Don't miss it during the winter though, that's for damn sure.

Tell you to shut your cock holster and get your dick beaters out of your pockets. You think you're a fricking businessman, private?

I lured him in,
With a piece of bread

Now imagine your drill Sgt saying that to you in a lisp and calling you "bithcutt head". That's what life was like for 13 weeks in the summer of 88 in Alfa 1/81 Armor with Drill Sgt Wallace.

You wanted so bad to laugh every time he spoke... but you knew to do so was suicide.

The moral of the story is,
If you want some head you need some bread

My DS was from Greece. Could barely understand a word he said. DS Tsoukalis.

We also had a Drill Sgt named Klinger (just like in MASH minus the dress). He had a heart attack about halfway through though so we lost him. My other Drill was Balfus and senior drill was Connor.

I can't tell you the names of people I met earlier today but I'll never forget those names from going on 30 years ago.

I remember cadre names but none of the pvts because we went by number. I was 146. Nicely dehumanizing.

Well, if one is using it to talk down to people, it can be offensive. If a senior officer is calling a woman "little girl" or talking down to a private with a barking "BOY!" it can be offensive and come across as plain unprofessional.

I kept in touch with a few of the guys I was with. One was from like one town over from my hometown.

He got tied up in the wrong people though and ended up getting tied up and shot in the back of the head execution style about 10 years ago or so. I heard it was Mexican Mafia but who knows. You hear all kinda crazy shite when things like that happen in a small town. Crazy thing was he outwardly appeared to be a fine, upstanding business owner. Even lived in a huge house on one of the nicest golf courses in north Alabama. It was in that house that he was shot.

Can't say anything "offensive" now can we?

I wish Chicken would bless us with a military board. I'd love to start a cadence thread.

I mean, you could, but just because you can doesn't mean you should, especially in an environment where everyone has a gun and is supposed to be protecting oneanother. No reason to give anyone an excuse to frag your arse.

Certain people who are easily offended find most things certainly offensive. More later on the Germans News Network at Nein.
