Seriously though, this speaks volumes about Tony's lack of confidence with their ability to compete with WWE. If they are going to cede that throne, he will be in for a world of hurt when the next round of broadcasting rights negotiations begins.

Oh... it's b/c AEW afternoon shows have been successful that they have no issues having a PPV in the afternoon instead of in the evening

WWE is the one forcing the competition. They made up this ppv a few weeks ago just to mess with AEW.

Lets not be ignorant of what's going on. TKO ran this playbook with MMA. When the Fertittas owned UFC, Strikeforce was a solid #2. Since TKO bought UFC there hasn't been a legitimate #2 company. I believe it was SRS who commented that WWE running PPVs against Tony is them starting to slowly kill it off.
Now I'm not completely negative on the company. All In held up quite well against WWEs counterprogramming. The matches were a mixed bag but there were several on the same level with SNME. They have the ability to do well if Tony hires (and takes the advice of) a creative team. That's his biggest pitfall...treating the whole thing as a way for him to do the fantasy booking he did during the MNW. The biggest gift he has given wrestling this year is releasing that Rollins-Zayn match today. Him buying that ROH library is the one smart business move he made, It will be more valuable to other countries than anything he's done with the AEW brand.
The other thing he has got to do to bring in viewers is push for their PPVs to be available on HBO Max just as WWE is on Netflix/ESPN/Peacock. Having everything on one service is an advantage he has over WWE's three. Frankly I will watch their PPVs at no cost whereas I won't sit and watch 2 hours weekly because I'm not going to waste time watching random thrown together matches where everyone is either tumbling, blading, or the same stupid Don Fallis screwdriver bullshite he's been doing his entire time with Tony.
