People watch wrestling to see larger than life characters go at it... Goliath vs Goliath. AEW seems to bank on the theory that people would rather see a bunch of dudes who can do a bunch of flips in the ring instead of big muscular monsters. Not saying there isn't a place for a guy like Rey Mysterio but they need to be an exception, a change of pace, not the norm

Well the bigger problem is no one is watching either right now. WWE ratings have never been worse, so thinking people only want to see a certain thing isn't exactly the case.

I actually don't think this, but then again, Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman were my favorite wrestlers in wcw.
It's a different time. I think in ring work and character matter more these days then how muscular you are.
That said, the problem with AEW is that their roster is filled with bottom tier indy talent. The only guys I care about are:
Dustin Rhodes
Cody Rhodes
Adam Page
John Moxley
Darby Allin
MJF
Kenny Omega
Everyone else has no business on national TV.
