I just hope you're better at engine repair than you are at message board quoting.

the plan is to get the tranny rebuilt as new as well.
Don't know about the crate motor but for a rebuilt tranny I would check with Kardashian's on Hollywood and Vine. They have vast experience on this matter.

2006 F150 super cab XLT with 4.6L v8 with 155k miles $4500
I recently sold my 06 F150 4.6 Super Cab RWD w 166K miles for 7K. There aren't any rust problems on the 04-08 F150 if it's a southern states truck. I would go with the 06 out of the ones you listed. It's not a fleet/farm vehicle.

im a skilled mechanic so i can do everything but rebuild the engine tranny and rear end, and thats only from lack of the needed equipt and special tools
You however are not a magician, you cannot make something old new again.
If you chose to try to keep replacing broken parts with almost but not yet broken parts on an old vehicle, be forewarned that the vehicle will continue to let you down (again & again) because you are forcing it to be in use past it’s useful life.
If that’s all you can afford to do, I understand and that makes it tough for you.
Good luck with it.

well obviously, but i can do 4 point new brakes and rotors all around, shocks and/or struts, flush and refill the brake system, replace any and all if need be, of the u-joints, bearings bushings, tie rods and ends, ball joints for new and have the tranny rebuilt with all new clutches and bands before it fails and has issues.
after that all i had to do is keep an eye on the engine and at the first sign of an issue i will swap it with another engine with 100k or less on it
i get that there are risks of it costing money on a "somewhat" routine basis if you wait for it to fail. my plan is a punch list to replace it all, all at once, rather then wait for stuff to break, and since im not paying mechanic labor for anything but an engine swap, rear end issues, or tranny rebuild, im gonna spend maybe $5k vs the $25k-$30k i would spend buying new and the new truck i hate everything about its look and design

I would also look for a 04-06 Tundra V8 in your price range. Check the frame for rust if you find one.
