Try a standard goal with a smaller or lighter ball. For my daughters we used a lighter ball that I picked up from academy. The younger one is 6 and has been able to shoot on it for almost 2 years.

If you are going with a "portable" goal, they will not last that long anyway, so just plan on buying 2 one for now and a bigger one that will go to 10' when he is 9 or 10 ...also I have never known anyone to actual move the goal, its always put in one place and stays there, so does it really have to be "portable".... but I would suggest going with an in ground goal, it is worth the investment in my opinion.. just installed a goalsetter 60" (700$ off amazon warehouse)... I prefer the goalsetter to goalrilla due to the heavier gauge pole, most everyone will just look at the outside pole diameter and not the acutal thickness of the pole (but both owned by the same company now)
