Me too.

I bought a half cord of wood last year and it was hot and humid as shite almost all winter. I had to move the wood into my garage. So far we've had better weather this winter.

Have you tried burning your wife?

If anyone says anything, just tell them she was a witch.

If you want a brick better check your foundation. Serious weight depending on the height.

My house doesn’t have a fireplace, and we want one. Brick house, on slab. In Lafayette area.

What would this set me back? Anybody know someone who could do it? How long would it take?

I grew up with one and don’t mind cleaning it out everyday.

I used to install them. Honestly, if it were me, I would install a pellet stove in a central location where your penetration through your roof is at least 2' from the apex. Use duraVent for piping. A good stove and good install will run you around $6-7K in a typical home.

Pellet stoves burn super clean, are thermostat controlled, self-feed, you just load a hopper and go. By far the most efficient, cleanest burning wood stove you can use without the hassle of splitting logs and feeding.

ETA: All the pellets are is compressed sawdust.

Adding a true masonry fireplace to an existing home is a pretty big project. The best location will be an outside wall, where you can pour a slab to accommodate the new firebox and support the chimney.

If you just drop a new fireplace on an existing slab you will likely have problems unless you have one hell of a slab already in place.

For sure. A true masonry fireplace needs its own foundation. Of course it can be done inside the home, but be prepared to spend $30-40K on a wood guzzling center piece that doesn't do much in terms of heating all while being a huge pain in the arse to install while living somewhere.

A real masonry fireplace will cost you at a minimum 25k - 30k.

There are less costly options like wood stoves or gas fireplaces.

But you're gonna pay big money for a real masonry. DO NOT TAKE LOW BIDDER ON THIS.

Fireplaces is a dying art.

Depends on what kind of fireplace you want.

You could get a ventless gas fireplace for about 6k installed if you have a gas line in your attic that can be pulled from.

Im going to use a ventless zero clearance gas fireplace insert.
