Collierville is a very safe area with excellent schools. This is highly unexpected and very sad.
One of the highly overlooked dynamics of living in a place like Collierville is that many of your everyday service workers commute from rough areas of places like Memphis (and may or may not be resentful of that dynamic).

Used to live in Collierville. All of my neighbors worked for FedEx corporate. That was the Kroger where we used to shop all the time.

Texting some friends to check on them. Sounds like all the victims are alive but many are in serious condition.

My sister's family lives very close to that store. I've been in it many times. The whole point of living in Collierville is to stay away from crime like this that's normally closer to downtown Memphis.

Damn people. I was being sarcastic, since everytime this happens, the left tries to take away gun rights from responsible gun owners, who aren’t even the issue.

Collierville is new money. Germantown is old money.

I don’t think there has been a lot of money going into Memphis since the FedEx IPO decades ago.

Collierville is just where the well off in the Memphis area land lately. They just head farther down Poplar Avenue. First to east Memphis. When that got full, they went to Germantown. When that got full, they went to Collierville. Now Collierville is full and they are going into Piperton and Eads.

20 years ago it was a lot smaller, had a lot less traffic, and was a lot more affordable. It had its own small town identity. Now it’s just an extension of east Memphis and Germantown.

When I moved to Collierville, it was the best Memphis suburb by a mile and it was known for being friendly. By the time we moved away, it was starting to change. Now it’s known for being a little snobby by Memphis standards….but a lot of really good, down to earth people live there still.

We only eat imitation crab legs seasoned with dry rub consisting of paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, white pepper, chilli powder, onion powder and brown sugar and smoked at 225 for an hour next to some ribs.

Didn't Collierville HS have a Rhodes scholar last year that was accepted into all the Ivy's, MIT and Stanford? I know they have some of the best public schools in the country. Friend of mine's daughter went to MsState basically as a sophomore because of all their advanced classes.

What is the Cordova area like these days? Been a while since I've had reason to hang around that area.

Depends where you are talking about in Cordova. Wolfchase area has invited some crime to the north.

Old Cordova is still great.

And yes an off duty police officer was driving his new charger through Shelby Farms at speeds over 110 mph and killed two people as he was coming over Germantown road. Not sure how you can blame the area for that. I think that is a case of an off duty cop being an a-hole and driving his car as fast he could on a road with limited access from other roads.

The off duty cop lived in Cordova.

A couple of days before that there was a home invasion and I'm pretty sure someone was shot in what you consider a nice part of Cordova.

I have friends that live over by that lake. As a whole the area is still decent but let's not pretend it hasn't gone downhill in several parts of Cordova.

You can't be a Rhodes Scholar out of high school. That doesn't make sense. You apply for it as a college upperclassman.

White Station has several of those every year. So does Houston High. Germantown used to, as well.

This is hyperbole. Even my family who are teachers and administrators there would agree. It's an average southern suburban public school system.

I went to Germantown over 20 years ago and had the same at LSU. I got 12 hours Spanish credit for a 3 on the AP exam. My best friend who went to Rhodes College got zero credit for the same score. State schools are desperate for reasonably smart kids.

If you're not an AP kid, you're treated like cattle and likely taking out student loans to go to Memphis or Austin Peay.

General point being that Collierville is a perfectly generic suburban high school, but nothing exceptional.

The reason I moved to Bartlett instead of Cordova from east Memphis. (Colonial Acres) was because of some of the stuff that has gone on. All the shenanigans that have gone on and around wolfchase was my reason. Cordova and East Memphis are the most overpriced areas when you consider crime. No way in hell I would pay 300k for a 2000 square foot home in Dova when I can get the same home in Bartlett for 250k or less at least at the time when I was looking in December.

Stay safe out there. There are crazy people everywhere. This tragedy isn't a representation of Collierville or other suburbs of Memphis. It was a crazy person.

Memphis still has its issues but it is absolutely still a great place when taking all things into account like job opportunities, healthcare, education.

Hell one of our residents was the first female civilians in space. Raised multiple millions of dollars for IMO the greatest child cancer center in the world in St Jude.

That's true. Mama's and Dadddy's start making families at 16 out there. Better talent is at the Catholic schools in Shelby county tho. All the semi-responsible hotties I met in college from Memphis area went to Catholic schools.

Nope and no reason to spend excess dollars without kids. Even if I could spend 500k why would I do so in this market. Doesn't make sense. Especially since I've already added value to my home with a little work and investment. Much easier to rent my home in the event I move versus being cash poor, and trying to rent a home in Germantown or Collierville. That's stupid. Like I said before. I could get same home in Cordova for 250k as is or 400k as is in Germantown or Collierville. Then I need crap load more down payment and prospect of renting is lower in the event I need or want to move. Now I have more cash on hand equity built and the ability to cover my mortgage tremendously easier. Housing crash is gonna affect the affluent areas more than my location. Then I'm upside down trying to move and don't have enough cash on hand as well as having to pay a higher interest rate. If you want a spread sheet I can make one for you.
