Had a kid at 17, parents were complete retards and gave little life guidance regarding future, college etc. and I had to pay for the kid and parents had no intention of paying for school. Friend was in high school ROTC and was also going into LA National Guard and told me it was fun. He told me the right things to get in my contract to guarantee all the cool stuff and it worked out perfectly in my favor. Did 5+ years, joined LA National Guard when I got out to get tuition exemption and did another 7. Best lucky moves I ever made my entire life. Bachelors and Masters Degrees and debt free.

I joined at 17, delayed enlistment so I could finish High School. Never knew how to do anything but what I was told, so I signed up for Air Force. Parents wouldn't sign for any other service at the time. Haha!
I joined because I wanted to see different places, do different things, and get free school out of it. I just signed my second enlistment of 6 years last July. Best thing I have ever done.
My job is 2A9, Bomber Avionics Technician. Worked B-2 up until last February, went to a training systems test and evaluation job for the same airframe, now I have orders to Edwards AFB in California to do operational test and evaluation. Gonna live in sunny Palmdale and enjoy the one or two seasons I get year round.

September 11, 2001....plain and simple. I was starting my second year of college at Kent State University when 9/11 happened. I withdrew from school and joined the military within a week of that faitfull day. This was our "Pearl Harbor" moment in history and i knew at that moment that the world was never going to be the same. I wanted to be a part of history and knew what i was signing up for (knowing and accepting that i may pay the ultimate sacrifice and be killed in combat). It's the single greatest decision i have made in my life up to this point. I'm proud of my service and our work in Iraq, proud to be a Veteran and proud to be an American.

I always had the innate feeling to serve my country in the military. I didn't enlist after high school since I had tops. I hated the ROTC classes at lsu luckily I didn't sign anything. I wanted to be an officer but realized I'd rather do a little time enlisted first. Now I'm gonna go back to school and obtain a direct commission hopefully
