I was at Ace Hardware the other day and the cashier asked if I wanted to join their rewards program. I said Sure, I shop here a lot because it's right by the house.

I really wished I never signed up for this.

I cannot believe the amount of Spam email, Spam text messages and junk mail in the regular road mailbox.

Here's the kicker - it appears ACE sells your information to a 3rd party because now I get a shitload of spam from other companies selling power tools and shite. I am literally in SPAM hell rigt now because of ACE Hardware

Just one example: I have 15 different spam messages for Dewalt tools, 10 different spam messages for Ryobi, etc etc etc. It's crazy!

I don't mind a few things here and there but this is insanley over the top.

I have unsubscribed at least 10 times, I have responded to text at least 20 times STOP and they just keep coming in all throughtout the night - even at like 3:00 in the morning. I am talking like 10+ per day - all different promotions!

I am posting this to warn people - be careful signingup for the ACE Hardware Rewards program. Their marketing should be illegal!

Dude...everyone is doing this. Data is worth a sbit ton of money. Don't call a complaint line for any business. Usually that is operated by a business doing it for free for that business so they can collect and sell data

My Ace doesn't even ask for your reward information anymore, stopped a while back. Their rewards went to shite anyway. Use to get $5 off any purchase but it changed to $5 off any $25 or more purchase.

I know companies do this but I would not expect a company like ACE Hardware doing this and allowing whoever they are selling your data to to be this aggressive with Spam Marketing. I would expect that shite from an internet type company, but not an actual Brick and motor type store.

Yeah, but the worker most likely either gets a bonus for signing people up or gets demerits when not signing enough people up.

That's bad. I've never been hammered by Lowes and others for that. However, there is nearly always a checkbox that I uncheck that limits sharing of my information with "partners" usually for "exclusive offers and discounts."

I can't tell if Ace provides that prompt without signing up myself. It is telling that their privacy policy/program terms address third parties once, when they clearly state that Ace is not responsible, at all:

quote:

(i) YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM, (ii) YOUR USE OF ANY PRODUCTS, SERVICES, OR PROGRAM BENEFITS RELATED TO THE PROGRAM, (iii) ANY UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO OR UNAUTHORIZED USE OF YOUR PROGRAM ACCOUNT, PROGRAM CARD, OR PROGRAM BENEFITS,

Sharing of data with 3rd parties is likely under (ii) under the guise of "use of .. program benefits." What was kind of stunning is them claiming no libability for unauthorized access to your data.

Ace isn't the hardware store with the old, knowledgeable man working anymore

You're lucky if they can even point to the correct aisle.

How many tools has OP purchased from the junk mailers? Sounds like zero.

The one on Millerville in BR is great. Sometimes I'm willing to pay a little more than the Lowes right down the street because someone will come ask me if I need help without me having to hunt someone down

That's not the only data theh can collect. I'd you clal my complaint line at work they have all your basic info and what you have ordered. The data on where your cellphone pings is valuable as well. I can tell you how many days from when you were around one of our ads on atmosphere/chive TV and when you entered one of our stores was

I love ACE. Not knocking the actual store. I find it a lot more convenient than a Lowe's or Home Depot. I just wish the spam would stop even after I have opted out so many times.

It is where I live. Old and crotchety, but knows what I need for any task. They will also ignore the tourons for the locals which is a blessing when you have stuff to do and they are wandering around aimlessly looking at beach stuff.

I am just baffled that I have 3 downvotes for me trying to be helpful and warn users of my experience dealing with ACE Hardware spam.

If I can just make a difference for just 1 person to not have to go through what I am goung through with ACE hardware, then I feel I did my duty to helping spread the word about this shady spam gimmick from a beloved American company.

I don't think it is a shot at you. It's just so prevalent that many of us are a bit surprised you didn't know how this all worked. Didn't down vote you btw
