I think I'm gonna stand on the soapbox for this rant:
I'm getting sick and tired of the Hollywood/PC liberal bullshite that is becoming more rampant in science fantasy. It is deplorable that they would use such a trite contemporary issue such as homosexuality and apply it to a fantasy universe. The point of fantasy movies like Star Wars are an escape from our society's issues/norms to experience stories that exhibit common and raw emotional investment in narratives without the bias of political/social influences. All this is is a pathetic pandering to people to congratulate themselves on lazily observing "social progress" without anything of substance being done. Hell, if they really care about "inclusiveness" of people, why don't they just bring in Eskimo Jedi or transgendered stormtroopers. But no, that's not trendy enough yet for our times. If Luke Skywalker being gay is relevant to the plot, then why don't you address the "police brutality" bullshite while you are at it within the "Resistance"? That's stuff is trendy, right? It's always about appealing to movie go-ers by bringing in "identity politics" and silencing difference of unpopular opinions under guise of "fairness" and "social justice".
TL;DR: Bringing homosexuality to SW is insulting, trite and done only to appeal to intellectual laziness.
