Funny story. Long ago, my first year teaching and a little girl told me that someone called her 'the h word'. I was puzzled and thought she meant hell but that made no sense. So i had her tell me the bad word. Its was 'ho'.

Well as a teacher, that was just wrong. So i talked with my 4th graders about the word, explained that it actually started with w originally and how it was properly spelled in the dictionary,etc.

Had to also explain 'bitch' was originally just a female dog and was not always a bad word but people turned it bad.

Turned to be an interesting lesson with them but i was afraid i would get in trouble. Nope, parents actually thanked me. Shocking but funny. Ah, teaching in the inner city. I honestly miss my kids and the fun we had.
