Dear Beloved Prayer Warriors,
You've won the day for my sister in this skirmish. The cancer war may well continue as we don't know if the enemy is dead or merely in retreat but today we celebrate!!
My sister’s oncologist gave her a quick update call yesterday after presenting her PET scan results to the Tumor Board, which is compromised of doctors from each of the relevant disciplines in the Emory Winship Cancer group. Her full body scan showed no "Hot Spots", i.e. the PET scan works by her drinking a radioactive sugar mix which cancer ingests at a faster metabolic rate, which then shows up as yellow/red "hot spot(s)" on the PET scan. Since there was no visible cancer to discuss the board moved quickly to the issue of her oversized spleen, created by a grapefruit sized "cold" mass of dead and calcified former cancer cells, which is crowding her kidney. They recommend a CAT scan in a month to clarify the spleen picture to determine whether it should be removed. Her liver biopsy shed little light on her elevated liver enzyme issue but they continue to discuss and study.
She is off all medicines and Round 3 and 4 of IL2 are currently off the table. They won't declare her cancer free because cancer begins with one cell and there is no technology that can detect that.
We cannot thank our Faithful and Awesome God enough for this victory, short lived or not. He has blessed her with an army of prayer warriors, She is so thankful and humbled.
Praise our Heavenly Father.
