good photos. I can't imagine at all what those soldiers went through. I've read a bit on Iwo Jima, brutal is the word that comes to mind.

Cool photos but sad as hell to me today for some reason. All those good men lost. Here is to peace.

I have tons of photos from there and none of them do the place justice. You can't escape the smell of Sulphur on the island. Really has a Dantes inferno feel to it

That’s pretty cool man! Sobering to think of all the young boys that gave their all on that forsaken place.

Very nice, but as Pimp said, in his... simple, uneducated way, it is very sobering and sad. To think of the lives lost, the families hurt... On all sides.

What prompted your visit there? History buff, veteran, family???

Had family that worked at Higgins during the war and had a great uncle fight in the Marines in the Pacific. You can say I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to WWII history

Thanks for the pic’s.

I don’t know how to link.

If you Google “ forward artillery observer Iwo Jima Marines “ the third picture will show Mr Stanwood Duval of Houma, La. at the airstrip. The picture will link you up with story of that day.
Could somebody please help and post the picture for me.

Mr Stanwood and his brother Claude joined to go “ kill some Jap’s “.
They left with young kids and young wife’s at home. They were truly dedicated.
They made 4 or 5 of the major landings without getting shot.
Mr Stanwood wrote a story of his service. I’ll try to find it , post somewhere and link
