This, it's pretty clear the truck had already moved to avoid hitting him.

I just realized something, he was on a dual sport and could have driven over the sliding bike if he needed to.

No, I ride a DRZ400sm daily and have gone down after hitting a raccoon on perkins one night similar to the guy hitting the dog. No way in hell you can just ride over a fricking motorcycle in the road just because youre on a dualsport

Yeah. It doesn't look like he was in real danger, but still impressive evasive move.

Yeah. I'm not sure what he's thinking. Hitting just about anything bigger than a squirrel is not good on a motorcycle. And for sure hitting something as big as another motorcycle will ruin your day.

Few thoughts:

1. So glad the guy is OK. I ride a dual sport and those bikes are indestructable. He probably did less than $200 damage to the plastic farings.
2. Why did he lay the bike down and drop off it? I am guessing he is new to riding. His best chance for survival was to clamp down the front and rear brake and try to steer away from the other bike in the road.
3. In response to #2, I have no idea if I have enough riding experience or "balls" to do what I suggested. It is just what I have read in every biking book and heard in every motorcycling course I have attended. Stay on the bike. Stay on the bike.

I went down at 60 in the accident mentioned above, bike slid along the kickstand and handlebars. $35 and it looked brand new again

Hello fellow DRZbro, and yeah even though you are on a dual sport, hitting the smallest thing will still cause you to go down. I hit a deer going about 50mph on my 600rr three years ago and it was like hitting a wall.

ya, you could see truck was way over in lane to avoid...in fact the tires smoked as he got even with the biker who leap to safety

While I agree with you, a deer is a bad comparison.

A deer can total an F-250 brother.
