Very interesting watch. Talks about the ocean mechanics and history of ships that have been sunk by the Outer Banks dating back to the 1600s through the World Wars.

Yep, it's the reason they call it the "Graveyard of the Atlantic".

People still make mistakes out there with their boats. It's not a place to go on a pleasure cruise unless you know it really well.

Been on a couple charters out there and both were quite the ride out, but the fishing was excellent.

Did some shark fishing tournaments from the beach around Hatteras and Buxton, also. Great times.

That is an awesome place to vacation in general. Never a day with calm seas though.

The Banks are definitely a great spot, especially if you're a fisherman. We bought a beach place a few years back, looked up in the Banks, but decided to go to the Brunswick Islands at Holden Beach because we have younger kids and the shore is a little more predictable and less rough, much shorter drive for us as well.

In general NC shores can be pretty rough with a stronger current than you'd expect.

Riptides out there are no joke. I used to go to those shores as a kid. My parents wouldn't let me get in the water.

If you are ever up there, take the ferry from Hattaras to Okracoke. What looks like a simple passage is actually a winding route around all of the sandbars between the islands.

We didn't see them when we were there in 2014 (maybe they were removed for safety, maybe the tides covered them up) but my parents talked about going pre 1963 and seeing the remains of ships partly buried in the sand right off shore.

Has some of the most consistent coastal winds in the US, part of the reason the Wright Brothers tested their planes there

I grew up going to the beach in NC and went to the gulf for the first time as a young adult. I was shocked at how calm (and warm) the water was in comparison.
