A/C Mechanic reccomendation Metairie?

Had a belt break this past weekend. Turns out my compressor has ceased up.
Anyone got a good mechanic that wont give me the shaft for this work?

I've found compressor's online for as low as $90 with a 1 year warranty.
Do the experts of the OT think I should go with a brand new compressor. ($225+) Or a salvaged one for around $100?
If the labor is going to be less than $500 (I was quoted $625 at S&I automotive repair). I can probably get a new compressor, but damn I hate spending $700 on A/C.
Backstory: Recent Grad. first job. Loving the city. Couple of speed bumps already.

not the absolute cheapest, however, he'll warranty his labor for a year, and he uses replacement parts that have a lifetime warranty on them

Seized the compressor or the bearing on the input shaft? If just the bearing it's a cheap and relatively easy fix. If the actual compressor then you will need more parts than just the compressor, you will need to flush the entire system and possibly replace the accumulator and orifice tube/expansion valve assembly.

There is rubber residue showing on the pulley and the pulley doesn't turn so from what I've read that means the compressor has ceased up. I will take it to one of the recommended places and have them give it a once over as I ponder what to do.
