Well technically it's 9 since 1980 so that's only one every 4 years or so. If you drink a lot that's not very often.

I think once you get the first one, you are screwed for life. Every time a cop runs your plates, they will see that dwi on your record and automatically pull you over, whether you were driving dunk and erratically or sober and safe.

I got one 11 years ago and I've only been pulled over one time since and it was 1am and I made a u-turn in the middle of the road. Luckily I wasn't drinking but they did spend a lot of time asking me questions to convince themselves of that.

I don't know how often cops are just running random plates but the chances of that being the reason you get pulled over seem pretty low. If it were true, I would still have no issue with it.

I sure as hell got lucky then. I haven't even drank in years but I had to have driven drunk more than 80x. I'm always amazed and thankful when I reflect on how stupid my decisions were.
