my understanding is that if they disagree, the system defaults to the Captain's side, but in any event, the protections can be turned off

To the whole pilotless passenger/cargo plane topic I got two words.....
Bird strikes
But that's why I suggested the takeoffs and landings could be handled remotely by pilots and then handed off to the autopilot at cruising altitude. You're not ingesting geese at 35,000 feet.

Federal investigators are looking into whether Boeing Co. provided incomplete or misleading information about the 737 MAX aircraft to U.S. air-safety regulators and customers, people familiar with the matter said.
The focus on disclosures to regulators, which hasn’t been previously reported, is part of a broader investigation into how the jetliner was developed and certified, some of these people said.

Bad day as well for CFM (GE) losing 98 engines plus spares.

Their backlog is so huge that the 98 engines will not have any effect if that order ends really cancelled at all.

quote:Ok...help me understand. Does the pilot have the ability to just kill all the automation and fly the jet old school till they can figure out any issues? I certainly would hope this would be an option.... to just fly manually until things could be calmed down during an emergency. Reading a manual while in distress is not something I, as a passenger, think would be prudent.
couldn’t be overcome usual way without using cut out & going manual.

I've never liked them, but mostly because every one I've ever been on has been very uncomfortable. Not 100% sure why, but it kind of make sense if you think about the name: "just hop on this 'bus' thingy and we'll be in Europe in 9 hours."
