Oh, damn.
Poor horses. Guess the dogs were well fed.
I didn’t know until I read wild ride that calumet started as a standardbred farm and was a damn good one.

That museum is so amazing, goose bumps every time I step foot in there.
I agree, my old man is enshrined there

Except the museum is not dedicated to "your" sport.

Most were
Standard bred was the standard in early America. Agustus Belmont was a standardbred operator.
Calumet made their money from baking powder. Amazing how well they did with it. Would of left it all to University of Illinois instead of University of Kentucky except for their relationship with their next door neighbors in Lexington. I think they were one of the backers of "Gone with the Wind" and the Belle Watling character in the movie was based on Lexington madame Belle Breezing.

You put tbs with “all other horses” at the bottom of your list.

Most of the biggest farms in CKY were standardbred
Walnut Hall split off 1/3 to create the Horse Park
Almahurst
Castleton
Bobbie Woolworth's place over in Bourbon County
Merging the 2 racing commissions was a poor decision by the state and cost CKY dearly.

When I was a kid they’d throw me up of the off track trotters to ride. Back then the road horse classes we’re still off the track and not a hybrid saddlebred/standardbred thing. So much fun.
That’s about the most I know.

My dad used me as a baby (like 1 - 2 years old) as weight when he was breaking yearlings. When I was in my late 30's I was working at a private track and guy was doing the same with his infant daughter. Everybody was giving him grief but I just smiled and took it all in. Horses are smart and know infants are no threat and keeps them calm.

That’s how we break them in. Keep the sport going

I didn’t start riding til I was 4. That’s when my mom got a horse.
I’m still one of those weird horse girls

Posted on 1/5/19 at 10:30 pm to Aspercel
