I read that book when I was a freshman in HS in 1990.

I was getting ready to start my senior year in high school when this crap went down between the killing of Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski and Stephen Parent at Tate's home on Cielo Dr.
Then the next night Manson himself led them to Leno and Rosemary LaBianca's house and ordered them killed.
It was all over the news for days on end and the sheer brutality of the killings shook up a lot of people, especially those in the area of the killings.
If Susan Atkins had kept her mouth shut while in jail for a minor charge and not bragged about the killings to a cellmate, who knows how long it would have taken the cops to solve that crime.
Then the next night Manson himself led them to Leno and Rosemary LaBianca's house and ordered them killed.

You must remember this podcast has a really good 12 part series on all the Manson and Manson adjacent things. Starts at episode 46 I think. Listened to it s few weeks ago.

Great movie. I thought it was one of Tarantino's tops films behind Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill/Reservoir Dogs.
