But I really want a grey one. It will look so cool with the chain leash that matches the chain on my wallet.

Sorry folks. Unless you are like my single female friend that rescues these pieces of shite, and acknowledges that they should never be around children, you are delusional.

I know. And you want a pit-bull because you think they are "cool." Period.

I have no idea about either. I just know it ripped half her lip off for no apparent reason.

The reason was because it wasn't raised and trained just right. Duh.

And because I'm fully capable of raising it properly and wouldn't own one until I had the time to do so.

Please illuminate us, oh wise canine behaviorists. What peer-reviewed studies are cited here to support such anti-pit bull consensus?

"But the truth is that dog attacks are rarely investigated in such a way that reveal the
real reasons why dogs attack. And so we have routinely come to draw totally inaccurate
conclusions about canine behavior. These inaccurate assessments often lead to breed-specific
legislation which is not only of no value in keeping communities safe, but has caused
much anguish to responsible dog owners and has doomed hundreds of thousands of dogs
to exile or death. "

Nailed it.

Do you have a reason for wanting one other than the fact that you think they are cool? Do they somehow outperform other breeds in an area that is important to you? I'll hang up and listen.

Do people often have utilitarian purposes for owning dogs? Must they? I own dogs because I love them, enjoy their companionship/loyalty, and enjoy training them. I do think pit bulls are cool and I know I can raise one properly.

Doubt it.

not worth the risk...especially when kids are involved.

...people that let pits around their kids don't love their kids as much as the rest of us.

So it's simply because you think they are cool. That's what I said. You can articulate no other reason.

Yes, people have dogs for companionship. And people have dogs for utilitarian reasons. You have given absolutely zero reasons as to how or why a pit-bull serves either purpose better than another breed. And you ignore the glaring fact that the only thing they excel at, other than giving you street cred, is killing people.

Risk/reward is a logical way of looking at things. You are not logical when it comes to this topic.

I articulated several. People often choose breeds based on aesthetics.

When did I ignore this? And who the frick said I gave a shite about "street cred"?

Well, that's a neat opinion. Don't own one. I really don't give a shite. Narrow-minded generalizations bother me, but you're giving me the equivalent of exposure therapy on that topic right now... so thanks for that.

Have a good one.

You are free to do whatever you feel is the right thing to do, but does the potential of what these dogs can do not worry you at all? There are good people who have had their life ruined because of a split second reaction, The capability the dog has, that could cause serious damage from a split second reaction doesn't worry you at all?

People who own pits and have kids are idiots. It's not that most pits turn into killing machines, it's that pits are extremely more likely to attack a person than any other breed. There are hundreds of other breeds you can get that are far less dangerous. Not to mention the fact that pits are ugly as sin. Absolutely no good reason to have one around kids

Does the increased likelihood of encountering drunk drivers prevent you from driving at night? What about the likelihood of a car accident in general? What about increased likelihood of fatalities from owning a gun?

Obviously dogs have certain instincts based on breed, but dogs (like humans) are products of both their genetics AND their environment. To generalize that because some people have been attacked by pit bulls that all pit bulls are ticking time bombs is to ignore the "nurture" in the nature-nuture combo.
