I saw JW in 3D. It was used mostly for depth, and not so much for things coming out of the screen at you (like at Disney World), if that make sense.

I don't think that 2D would be a huge dropoff in experience for that particular movie.

I just read again that you've never seen a 3D movie. It can be used to shoot things towards you/out of the screen that will literally make you duck; it can make you grab in the air for a butterfly fluttering in front of you-if that's the effect they want. Like I said, in JW, it's used for depth. Some of the wide open valley scenes for example, are brought to life more because of that depth. Kind of like the old viewmaster toy that had the picture disc that rotated as you looked through the eyepieces. Sort of like a kaleidoscope too. That's what I mean by visual depth.

I also find that the more pronounced the 3D effect, the more distorted the screen is without the glasses. JW was not that distorted without glasses, indicative of less effect with the glasses on. That's my opinion.

Since you've never seeen 3D before, go for it

I saw JW in IMAX 3D. I prefer the sound more than the visual effects. Usually 3D action movies seem blurry to me. Not JW. I enjoyed the movie.
