Charleston isn't the "Deep South".

I'm not so sure I agree with this. Charleston is about as southern as it gets. Southern with money that is.

It's definitely southern I just wouldn't include it in the "deep south". It's more along the lines of Richmond or Jacksonville.

Personally when I think of the real deep south places like Jackson, MS or Memphis, TN or Biloxi, MS come to mind.

Yeah, I lived in charleston for about 10 years and everyone I speak to that still lives there tells me that it's changing so much...and not in a good way. They say the peninsula is WAY over populated, housing prices are exorbitant. Mount Pleasant is nice though.

Try getting to Folly or Isle of Palms on memorial day / 4th of july / labor day without waking up before 8 am. You'll be in traffic for at least an hour and a half.

Yeah, it wasn't like that when I lived there. I left around 2008.

Well you left at a decent time. They've outlawed drinking on both of those beaches around 2011 - 2012 because of brawls and trash. Seems like the popular thing to do now is to take a boat to Morris but you can't drink there either. I was like 25 and got a warning ticket for being on the sand with a beer and not ankle deep in water.

If serious, NW burbs of ATL. Lots of neighborhoods where houses start in mid-$900s. Great public schools in the Pope and Walton districts.
