Good call. It's good to keep open lines of communication with the teacher
I usually stick to email since that is least disruptive and teachers have always been very helpful

i don't know ... i'm against common core ... and despite an 18 yr career as a teacher in every type of hs possible (of multiple subjects), i am, according to you, incapable of understanding the intricacies of why cc is the greatest thing since sliced bread ... you said it's not a method/system, then referred to it as a method (system is a synonym, i would think) ... i don't know what word you need to use ...

If you have not already and want to research the foundations of CC try some of the following terms:
1. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge
2. Bill Ayers - Annenberg Challenge
3. Bill Ayers - Common Core
4. Bill Gates - Common Core
5. And just for fun try Bill Gates and the Broad Superintendent's Academy as well as How to tell if your system is infected with the Broad virus.
The slow, steady march to a nationalized curriculum made a giant leap with CC.
While I am all for higher standards I am against CC.

it's just another set of standards ... the latest "can't miss" silver bullet theory put forth by "experts" who haven't seen the inside of a classroom in 30 years ... i've heard dozens of "methods", "standards", books to read, etc that were supposed to reinvent education and make everything wonderful ... the flavor changes every 3 years or so ... we've got 50 sets of standards that are, for the most part, similar in scope and detail ... a national version, written by phds in "education psychology", doesn't improve on that in any way ... most of the problems don't have a solution, or at least don't have one we've tried ... i've been a proponent of school choice since i first started teaching, and have seen/heard nothing to change that ... a new set of standards that enriches Pearson, Inc and the state/federal Dept of Education employees won't change much ...

already familiar with all of that ... esp the Broad award and Mr. Gates ... and Arne Duncan ... and Diane Ravitch ... and Linda Hammond ... both sides, played by the same people at one time or another ...

I really liked how our state tried to get public acceptance of CC by saying how closely the standards we had just put in place matched CC. No mention that CC had been "leaked" to states so the states could change their standards and then use this technique to gain public support.
And the rhetoric CC put out about all of the local and state input has also proven to be false.
