Let go of J&J Exterminating after last year. Guy looked in a few Sentricon plugs and left. I could do that.
Is the Taurus safe? I don't want to poison my kid by letting him play in the yard and get chemical filled dirt on myself.

Taurus is good. However, I'm partial to Termidor SC

Pasta and meatballs are good but given the choice I usually go with spaghetti and beef chunks.

UMMMM.....FOR YOU ROOKIES OUT THERE!

You can spray all you want. It will do you no good. These termites are not the same that's in your house. These swarms are unstoppable. This is the time of the year when all the bug control companies make their money. Cause inexperience people think they can kill them. But they can't. Just wait till the 1st of June and it will be over with.

Learned this the hard way. I didn't know about swarms and panicked and had them treat it. Not that it was bad to have it done, just that it was unnecessary. I thought I had termites and they acted like I did when they treated it. That was a while ago before I was less gullible, but it still pisses me off to this day that they mislead people to get them to buy their expensive treatment plan and yearly contracts when all it is is a swarm.

Supposedly once it dries it's safe for people. However, you're not supposed to spray your yard, only trench treat the perimeter of your slab and spot spray wall voids where infestations are present.

I had a soccer game last night. I was sure I was going to swallow a termite.

Thanks.
I guess 6 inches down and covered up, it shouldn't be present on the surface.

If the swarm seems to originate from inside the house, then there's probably a problem.

However, I do agree w the premise of your post. Our industry has done a magnificent job of scaring the shite out of people when it comes to termites.

I wasn't planning on spraying it. Instead I was going to use the high pressure pump to inject it.

I figured I could make a quill out of tubing and hook it on the end of my pressure washer wand. Once inserted in the ground you'd trigger the wand and it would create enough pressure to inject it. Seems cleaner than the trench method.

Kind of like what the preferred method is in this video YouTube link

Yeah, these swarms starting showing up in our neighborhood about 4-5 years ago. Freaked everyone out, especially since we have termite contracts with a local pest control company. They were pretty honest about it, though, and didn't try to take advantage of anyone. We'll just keep our outside lights off this time of year, and I re-caulked areas around the house that were potential trouble spots.

When large swarms started showing up on weather radar, I told my wife that it's time to move

Lots of good information in this thread.
However, if you have a termite bond with your mortgage company and are required to keep it as part of your mortgage agreement....is there anyway to DIY and still keep mortgage company happy?

I'm the same way. I love building and figuring out things too. I think you could build this with a few tubing fittings. They already have a wand on a pressure washer. If you cut the tubing at an angle and put some kind of foot step in it, it'd go right in the ground.

yea thats the easy part. it is the amount of solution to water that is the hard part.

If I dug the trench 6 inches deep with one of these, and the trench was V shaped, would that work?

Absolutely. You could dig the trench with a Fisher price shovel as long as it's 6"deep and 6" wide, you're good. Just make sure to back fill it with the dirt you dig after you pour the mixture into the 10' long trench. The key is to get the solution to soak into the soil 6" down and out immediately surrounding your slab so that if/when termites make their way to your home, they have to pass through the treated soil. They'll start chomping on your home for a little while, sure. But within 3 months the entire colony will be dead, dramatically minimizing your damage. The amount of damage you'll have by the time the colony dies out will likely not even be severe enough for you to even notice or have structural issues. Taurus SC works really, really fast.

Remember -- do 10' trenches at a time. If you dig all the way around your slab all at once THEN pour the solution in, it will soak into the soil before you can add the dirt back to the trench, thus keeping the soil you backfill it with untreated. It's a messy job but very worth it IMO.

I also have a industrial high pressure paint sprayer that pulls out of a 5 gallon bucket. You could "batch" mix and get it right easily. The pump is strong enough to inject it too.

It's 95 buck for the big bottle at Taurus SC for $95

That's enough to do 250 lineal feet of trench.
