I didn’t realize smithson valley was a part of this school district and I didn’t realize new braunfels and canyon high were in separate districts. Huh.

Probably is due to canyon lake. My uncle used to work in NB and there was a term for people who live near the lake. Canyon lake trash

My girlfriend’s aunt lives in the rich part of the canyon lake school boundaries (houses are all new, 2000sqft, on a few acres). Seems like there aren’t all that many kids in that neighborhood though, mostly older retired people.

Piper must be a new school cause I’ve never even heard of that one.

So is this school where the shooting happened, basically where smart smithson valley kids go?

(I realize a lot stay at that high school, smithson valley is one of the best schools around)

Edit: back to the topic of canyon lake, apparently there are a lot of meth heads around there

Pieper opened in 2023 with their first graduating class being in 2024. It's off Borgfeld in the Kinder Ranch area.

They re-zoned the district a couple years ago.

A combination of kids from SVHS, Pieper, Canyon Lake and Davenport if I had to guess. I would think New Braunfels would be too far a drive to go there every day.

The Comal County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday that a 15-year-old student used a .357 revolver he brought from home. Investigators have not identified a motive, though officials say they are reviewing the student’s academic history and other factors.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the boy’s home, seizing several electronic devices for forensic examination as they work to determine what led to the shooting.

Investigators said the student shot a teacher before turning the gun on himself. The teacher remains hospitalized, but her condition has not been released. The identities of both the teacher and the student have not been made public.

Anecdotal, but my parents lived off Beck Road (very close to this incident) for over 30 years. Went from completely rural to suburban with all that comes with it so they moved a year ago. He quit going north on 281 due to "homeless" vagrants.

My last time there was 2024 and thought Bulverde and immediate area was great, but I live in Colorado so my "homeless" tolerance may be a bit higher.

Bulverde, spring branch, Branco, and every other town (some of them are barely towns) north of San Antonio on 281 is nice, at least until you get north of the hill country (and unless you are really stuck up Lampasas and the others ain’t so bad either)

Maybe some trouble makers here and there but lots of wealth has moved into the area. And the old timer locals are mostly pretty cool too. Typical good ol boys and Germans.

The neighborhoods right around canyon lake are kind of a different story, at least the ones that aren’t particularly nice (I believe there are a few)
