Is reading partial posts an epidemic on this board all of a sudden?

unless they are saying that the euphoria of drug use takes you away from your real world problems which could be the case but I'm not sure an 11 yr old (especially one that lives in the suburbs of Pittsburgh) would use drugs for that reason.

I grew up in Allegheny County. A guy from my class died from a heroin overdose. In retrospect, I'm glad I got out of there when I did.

It's a sad story.
It's also a bigger symptom of the WOD drastically failing.
ETA: I have no idea what race the girl is FWIW.

It's an 11 yo girl. I know you're trying to make this a race thing but did the OP even mention the race of the girl? Black white or green, an 11 yo on heroin is a fricking tragedy.
eta- went back and checked, OP doesn't mention race so you are out of left field.

You saying cocaine is worse than heroin? Crack is probably equal to heroin (which is obviously made with cocaine) but cocaine by itself isnt.

While I'm as big of a WOD detractor as the next guy I wonder if anything the government would have subsidized and presented in the form of education to this girl would have helped.
I mean shite is the government going to pay Miley Cyrus and every other shitty arse pop artist from glorifying drug use. Maybe it will make a huge difference but I wouldn't bet much on it....especially if this girl is already ignoring the education her parents are giving her (assuming we are giving them the benefit of the doubt that they did in fact provide here with the grim reality that heroin use brings).

As much as it sucks to say it, the 11 year old girl probably had several older boyfriends that were supplying her with the heroin. The mother was distraught because she thought she was going to jail, and she probably should. When your kid is 11 you should know where he or she is at every second of the day. Poor parenting IMO

It's at the point that Requiem for a Dream should become required viewing for all 10-year olds

My first thought when seeing this thread was "how does an 11 year old get heroin", but thinking about when I was in middle school, it wasn't hard at all to get marijuana and not that difficult to get crack. But that doesn't make me less sympathetic.
It's an 11 year old kid. I don't care if it is a boy or girl or if he/she is black, white, brown, yellow, etc.. I would have the same amount of sympathy.
You don't think its a sad situation?

As someone who has seen it in kids not much older than her here in Kentucky, it's scary how quick heroin addiction can hit and how easy it is to get. Dealers don't give a frick who they're selling to when it comes to something like that as long as they're turning their profit. And it's not just a bunch of junkies in a house downtown that's doing it. It's middle-class and upper-class kids too. It's also coming from fairly stable homes. Pinning it on "bad parenting" is ignoring just how easy it is to get into.
The even larger problem is you're seeing mental health service/substance abuse services at the top of the chopping block in states that are hit the hardest and now on the federal level as well. And if you throw them in jail, they're ODing there too because it's easy to smuggle in.
Really just a sad situation that our government doesn't really give a shite to fix at the moment because there's no profit in it.

It's an 11 year old kid overdosing.
When were you first diagnosed with Aspergers?

How does one know even where to get heroine? I'm 36 and couldn't tell you the first place to look.

The current business involves unscrupulous people dealing with a dangerous and unpredictable (cutting with various tranquilizers) product.
You just have to know a guy who knows a guy.

I'm not sure the data supports that conclusion. IIRC there is virtually no difference statistically between crack and straight coke in terms of addiction. Heroin is much more addictive than coke or crack.
