Not viking yes, but Celts are pretty damn close

seems like the romans were fighting women.

Did they win?
ETA: And supplementing your ranks with women and boys when your men have been depleted and you're in a hopeless situation is not uncommon. It doesn't mean that women regularly fought as warriors and equals. Watch less TV.

Who gives a shite if they won or not, that's not the point. The point was, they were in the same ranks as the men fighting the romans, romans enveloped all of them and slaughtered them, men and women. even if you lost the battle you still fought.
and if we are going to dig, Viking really only means men. though it is common to refer to the entire clan as vikings and accepted to use the term viking women, though technically speaking it is incorrect. It would be like saying "man woman". We are really discussing Norse peoples, which actually come later in the timeline than the Celtic people who fought the romans in Britain.
quote:
Saxo Grammaticus (1160-1220), a theologian and historian from Denmark, wrote that in the 8th century, Viking women dressed like men and participated in the Battle of Bravellir.
Johannes Skylitzes (est. 1040-1101), a Greek historian and author, wrote that Viking women fought in a battle against the Bulgarians in 971 A.D.
Freydís Eiríksdóttir (est. 970-unknown), according to the Saga of Erik the Red, was the half-sister of explorer Leif Erickson. In the story, Freydís fights off attacking natives in Vinland, i.e North America.
quote:
“Ladgerda, a skilled Amazon, who, though a maiden, had the courage of a man, and fought in front among the bravest with her hair loose over her shoulders. All marvelled at her matchless deeds, for her locks flying down her back betrayed that she was a woman.”
As the story goes, Lagertha’s bravery and fighting ability were so impressive that the great Viking warrior, Ragnar Lothbrok, married her.
Also, you are putting words in my mouth, I didn't say they regularly fought, just that they were treated much different in "viking" society and even led and fought. Not regularly led and not regularly fought. It wasn't unheard of for the women to participate as I presented evidence.

Sweet Jesus. World history is being re-written by morons!

quote:I'm glad you agree. Why are you still talking about Celts then?
We are really discussing Norse peoples

Yeah, because they had been decimated.
Still means they fought together, I don't know why them getting routed matters in your argument.
quote:
Irrelevant tangent.
I agree, but if we are going to get in to the discussion, I wanted make sure that there is a known distinction.

I'm glad you agree. Why are you still talking about Celts then?
I referenced Norse Female fighting with men, don't know if you didn't comprehend that in my post that you responded to, or if you are purposely just ignoring.

Dude, again, less TV.
Everything I have referenced is not from TV, though I am aware that there is a TV character with the same name.
Hollywood has made a fortune off of bastardizing real historical people.

When the DNA analysis was so bad, they then decided to look for alternative possibilities such as an XXY male with Kleinfelter’s. The original analysis came back with a less than 1% probability of that being true. So the invented a new analysis method to make the model fit their hypothesis. Lol.
Clown world. That is not science. That is fiction or folklore at best.

Perhaps this man had thoughts about being a woman. Perhaps he didn’t. We know that about 3% of males in the world are born with Klinefelters. Apparently something like 0.6% of the population is estimated to identify as transgender. Most men with Klinefelters don’t even know they have it until they get older and start trying to have kids. All of this is incongruous with the assertion being made in the article. Goddammit this narrative needs to go away.
Wonder the % of the population had this issue in those time frames? I mean, you were married a at a much earlier age. Men or women with various fertility issues did not stay around long. Your purpose was to be fruitful and multiply.

All from some centuries-old bones! Isn't it incredible what carbon dating can do now guys!
It's almost like those ancient people knew this would be a hot button issue in 2021 and set out to inform us of their totally unbiased opinion! How crazy and unlikely is that!
