For the record, I think Benson is a mediocre owner. But he is the reason why we have the New Orleans Saints today, not really an argument to be made otherwise

YOUR POINT?? What owner buys a NFL franchise with the intention of losing money??
My point is Benson is a POS...period. He never "gave" the fans anything. I know a few people that worked for the Saints when Hasslet was there, and they all say Benson is an egomaniac and has absolutely no respect for the fans.

And Paul Tagliabue(sp?) is the reason they're not the San Antonio Saints

Benson, to some extent, has never recovered from the death of Jim Finks. Finks was the greatest GM the Saints ever had, and a straight shooter. I think with Mora/Kuharich/Mueller/etc that have followed, you had guys looking out for their careers first and the team second...
But this is all silly. Benson inherited a team that had never had a single fricking winning season. That had never even made the playoffs. That was literally the laughingstock of all of sports. I'd imagine Benson's career record as a Saints owner is somewhere around .500, which is still head and shoulders above Mecom

Not to mention that he has more money than brains.

Benson is an egomaniac. Do you think Mark Cuban or any other egomaniac owner gives a shite about how fans feel?? Honestly, they're in it for the money, period. Incidentally, fans traditionally foot the bill for their favorite NFL teams. The Saints for 12 years under Benson sent busses all around the state to pick up season ticket holders to attend home games. The total cost per year for fans to ride was a whopping $11.00 per season. After we made the playoffs two years ago we had to pay the total cost of chartering the same busses they used to send us prior to the playoffs. Net cost now: $175.00 per season. That is a net increase of $164.00 a season. Do you think we're bitching?? Hell no. You pay for what you want in life. Have a nice day.

I think your sig quote says it all.
I don't recall Mark Cuban or any other owner threatening to move their team only a month after a major natural disaster.
Ex: 49ers after 1988 earthquate, Dolphins after hurricane Andrew

I sat next to him at the Lsu Ole Miss game a few years back. I told him I was going to the Broncos Saints game the next day, and he thanked me for my support. He didn't come off as a very friendly guy.

Go to bed dude. Your arguments are lame. I agree with you about some things, but on the issue of Tom Benson, I don't really give a shite. He is in it for the money. If you can't figure that out and are jealous of his wealth, go to Citibank and see if you can float a loan to buy the Saints. I will be the first to congratulate you on your investment and try to hit you up for a free ticket or some other hand out. I personally don't envy anyone who is successful when they have to place a large personal investment and SUCCEED.

We get it. You hate Benson.

Hmmm...this may explain why you're stuck living in Lutcher of all places

I own Lutcher, boy. So, stay out of my town. GOT IT?? I see you're from Choupique.

I hate Benson. I firmly believe that he purposely tried to run the Saints in to the ground in an effort to get the team moved to L.A. up until Katrina happened and the league told him... "You ain't going nowhere, we're not going to be the league that abandons a city after the worst natural disaster in US history"

I will say this at the risk of being burned at the stake...I think Benson gets a bad rap as one of the worst owners. Don't get me wrong, Benson has some faults including being a walking PR blunder. But I think he is by no means one of the worst owners. His team plays in one of the weakest markets in the NFL and there have been opportunities for him to take the team elsewhere and he didn't. He gets a rep of being cheap but that is a misrepresentation based on the team having a philosophy of not going after the biggest free agents each offseason. So while I think he is far from being one of the best owners, I also don't think he is one of the worsts.

nice av

anyone ever think the Saints would be a great fan owned team like the Packers?
What's their market value now? $400mil or so?
400,000 at $1000 shares would work.

George Shinn?
Anyway those "disasters" you mentioned really don't compare to Katrina.
