Reportedly Payton is not a fan of Watson. This is all Dennis Alan.

It's been reported that Payton would not have gone after Watson. Only reason we are in this is because of Allen.

That was by Jeff Duncan. And that was also before the season. Jeff Duncan tried to make it seem like Payton hated Watson just because they didn’t try to trade for him. Jeff Duncan has an agenda though so I would take what he says with a grain of salt.
I would believe Payton would be on board with this if it meant he got a franchise QB for the next decade.
And to answer the OP’s question. It would make the likelihood of the saints landing him much higher. It probably is a done deal now if Payton is still here:
