Why do so many people cringe when Singletary's name comes up? I would take him as a DC any day, he wasn't good as HC but he did play a major role in building what has been the best defense in the NFL over the past couple of years.

So you're taking the word of the un-named player as fact?

No, just take that post as a hypothetical what if. Not saying it is but the reality is quite possible.

I hate the "players don't fit Spags system" argument.
I hate that one too. Almost as much as "It's a complicated system and it takes a long time to learn". It's not like he's trying to teach a cat how to bark. It's still lining up, tackling, covering, blitzing, yada yada yada.

Payton hand-picked Spags and has never even gotten to work with him yet. I remember a few days after they hired Spags, Mickey Loomis was on Sirius NFL Radio and was asked what he liked about Spags, etc. He said he'd never even met the guy. I just don't see Payton firing a guy he targeted and hand-picked without ever working with him.

If there have been club issues with spags vs mickey or spags vs joe vitt and/or mickey... there's no doubt which side Payton is taking. Spags already has very little to stand on with regards to his production here.

Of course, but those are hypotheticals. We've heard nothing about any problems between those guys.

1.) What's his system? Having Justin Tuck, Osi, JPP & Michael Strahan on the DL? Yeah, nobody has the players to fit that system save the NYG.

It's a system that calls for smaller (in weight;quicker) defensive linemen and stouter linebackers and big physical players in the secondary. It's an aggressive zone-blitz scheme. GW liked his linemen beefy and his linebackers small and 5'11 corners.

If Spags went through more than one pre season game and couldn't tell that we didn't have those types of players and didn't make adjustments, He is an idiot and should be fired on principal.

Also, why the hell did Ellis start and play so much at the begining of the year? He's opposite of that. Where were Hicks and Gallett and Wilson if that was the case? Why didn't we have Gallett/Wilson/Smith at DE and Jordan/Hicks/Buckley at DT?

And yeah, Singletary made San Fran into a pretty good defense. I'm not sure why he doesn't get more looks as a DC.

He brought in as many new players as he could, but what was he suppose to do? "Well shite, I guess I have to run GW's defense." He was brought in to change things.

Hicks was very raw. Junior and Wilson played their fair share, and Jordan moved in on the inside as well. The shite wasn't working very well at first, mostly (imo) because our two outside linebackers at the beginning of the year were Shanle and Herring.

I thought both the offence and defence were very slow almost stuck in cement scared of adjusting for the first 1/4 of the season.
I saw very poor play calling by Pete and Spags was too stubborn in rushing only four for too long. Both got us in a 0-4 hole. So I think there is plenty of blame to go around.
Anyone else agree?

CSP will figure it out regardless

he is still hear. He is down there right on the sidelines as we speak. He isn't to far from where the NFL Network crew is located.

He wasn't going to bring in a Justin Tuck, Osi or JPP. And he didn't have to run GW's defense. But why couldn't he say, "ok, I'm gonna play big up front and stop the run." or "I'm going to run small up front and rush the passer."? Instead he trotted the same guys out there until the end of the season and we watched the same shitburger defense every week.

And yes, I'm upset with this crappy arse defense and the way it was run all season. As I said, the players are part of the problem, but Spags doesn't get a pass for that atrocious defense.

First off, that's a damn lie. He benched Shanle, started giving different players more playing time, tried different packages. We just don't have that great of players. And second, it's not like he could really bring in a whole lot of quality players in the middle of the season.

There is alot going on more than just the D sucked. In that 0-4 start, the O sucked almost as bad as the D. Yeah, they couldn't stop RGIII, Cam, Cassel or Rodgers, but the O disappeared in those games.

I forget how many 3 and outs to start the Wash game. After driving the field on the opening drive, scoring, and forcing Carolina to punt, Drew threw a pix 6 deep in our own territory. We all know what the O did against KC. And, they had a lead in Green Bay, going into the 4th and only scored a FG (missed one too) and Sproles led the team with a whopping 20 yards rushing.

SP brings a swag back to the O and just by being consistent, will help the D a little....prolly good for 2 more wins.

I think if the unnamed player is right, then SP will have to consider letting Spags go, but I just can't see it.

I can also see Sun's point too. This D was too bad to just "not have the players". Spags should be able to adjust. And every needs to stop waiting on Martez Wilson. If he was going to do anything, he would have by now.

Kind of late in the process.
