We are back to the FG kicking wasteland and the guy we traded Lutz for is not even on the team and is now thriving in Indianapolis. Meanwhile we hope we can find an average kicker while Lutz is still as good as ever kicking in Denver. For us its the FG kicker marry-go-round again it seems.

If by traded you mean signed to replace Lutz, OK. Lutz had a bad year and was cut. Groupe had an even worse season in progress and was cut. Both took getting cut and parlayed it into getting better. Good for them.
This is how it works for kickers.

Last season, if you break it down by distance, Lutz and Smith were identical in accuracy. Overall, the numbers game worked in favor of Lutz since he had 21 field goal opportunities inside the 30 (39-yard or shorter FGs), and Smyth only had 5.
Lutz was 10-10 (100%) from 20-29 (100%) yards, 11-11 (100%) from 30-39 yards, 3-5 (60%) from 40-49 yards, 4-6 (67%) from 50+ yards, and was 0-2 in a playoff game that Denver lost 10-7, long of 57.
Smyth was 1-1 (100%) from 20-29 (100%) yards, 4-4 (100%) from 30-39 yards, 3-5 (60%) from 40-49 yards, 4-6 (67%) from 50+ yards, long of 57.
Let's see how the preseason goes; Brown may be better than Smyth. Hard to say right now, but hitting that long field goal is a good start.
