Why did the Saints brass make Carmichael take the OC job?

It's a pretty well known fact that when Payton left, Carmichael asked for a lesser position and Loomis and Allen, apparently out of sheer desperation to maintain the Payton offense, basically had to persuade/force Carmichael to be the OC. News flash idiots, if a guy says he DOESN'T WANT THE JOB he's probably NOT GOING TO BE GOOD. This shite blows my mind and makes me feel bad for Carmichael because he is catching the blame and will probably be fired (rightfully) when he knew going into it that he would not be able to handle the job. If they hired an actual OC when DA became the head coach I think we would actually be good, but too late now.
