Allen started 11 games as a rookie. Brock Purdy was a 7th round pick and looked just fine starting by the end of the season as a rookie. If sitting a year is the magic formula shouldn’t someone trade for Trey Lance.

Not only that, but you don’t give out 100 million guaranteed to a bridge qb. You go sign Minshew or Brissett or even Winston to maybe start a year at a much much lower cost.

Hell they would look like geniuses if they traded for Fields who went for almost nothing for a year with Penix in the wings. You get the best of both worlds. See if Fields is actually good and Penix sits and learns for a year. Then they can move forward with him, trade him, or let him roll out and maybe get a high comp pick if he does good. If he sucks, you move on with Penix after a year. And yiu know how their fans love black qbs. And he’s from there.

They had to know Penix would be there at 8. They totally shite the bed.

What are the Falcons cap implications, if they trade Cousins?

Same as us with Carr, they eat 100 million since it’s guaranteed money.

He has a no trade clause in his contract.

$90 million dead cap hit if he’s not on the team. $65 million in 2025.

Even if Penix is a solid QB this a terrible pick because the falcons just wasted a window of getting talent through FA & Trades on a rookie QB deal with cousins contract that they’ll be stuck with for at least 3 years. On the other hand if Kirk Cousins balls out you just wasted a potential top 10 pick that won’t see the field for 4 years instead having a player that could’ve help the offensive or defensive side of the ball on a team that’s in win now mode. Terry Fontenot might as well sign his resignation papers right now.
