Center is the more pressing need. But we have 2 All Pro guards with Grubbs and Evans. And then we have Lelito, who will have a shot to play Center and the staff really likes him. But if Lelito grabs the starting C spot and becomes our guy at C, then yes OG becomes an issue.

All we have at OT that is a sure thing in Strief. Armstead looks very very promising. No doubt about that. And he should lock up the LT spot. But I still wouldnt mind us getting another OT in the first 3 rounds or so. I think Armstead is going to be a great OL, but I dont feel 100% safe with him just yet.

The pressing need on the OL is Center. But Im more comfortable with our guards than I am with our OTs. Just because we have 2 pro bowl guards locked into the spots with some versatile guys behind them. If Lelito becomes our guy at OC, then we need another guard.

See Guard is a need no matter what due to Grubbs and Evans contracts. OT is nowhere near a "need" w TA and Strief resigning. Both very affordable deals. Harris is backup w jones and another guy as well. We can possibly grab a body there, definitely some UDFA.

Yea I wasnt looking at contract, just thinking personnel wise. And didnt Grubbs restructure?? But both guys contracts run through 2016.

Contract wise, yeah we are safe at OT. But what if Armstead doesnt take that next stop? And Strief has missed a few games in the last few seasons.

Regardless, I would not mind taking any OL in the draft, C, OT, OG, wherever.

But luxury pick I wouldnt mind us splurging on is DE / RB / TE.

RB: D. Thomas or D. Archer

Half because I think either would be good enough to fill Sproles' shoes

And the other half just so Cadet is expendable, and Lester eats some crow

Splurge is not an option.

That's optimistic.

If that happened, Lester would call the pick a waste because we already have cadet.

thats a need

Splurging? OG 100%. We have 2 OG's paid premium money in their early 30s. One is overrated (Grubbs) and the other can probably continue to play at a high caliber level sans injury (Evans). One is going to be cut if a strong candidate falls onto our lap in the 2nd/3rd round.

QB: not needed or even splurging is a waste a this point
RB/FB: still strong and full for another couple years
OT: seems content/fixed barring any failure in play coming from Armstead
OG: aging vets with contracts that jump next year. one will be gone.
C: Necessity, so picking one isn't splurging.
WR: Needs improvement which we will grab at least one this year
TE: Locked

DE: one is a UDFA with a 5th year option, the other gets 12 sacks and his contract is voided. If one of the big pass rushers fall, this would be a nice splurge with a great ability to rotate DEs in late game situations
DT: with bunkley taking a pay cut for only one year, I can see him being cut next year and a DT/NT being drafted is important. Same as OG, if one of the big DT/NT fall to us, we take it.
OLB: need a rangy one just incase butler fails/leaves. We are definitely thin at OLB and I see this as more of a need than splurge. haralson is good depth, but he isn't getting younger
ILB: Hawthorne has underperformed, Lofton is expensive next year, this is a definitely area of need
CB: one side is locked, a bunch of question marks, and an aging vet. Seems like a good pick on need more than anything.
S: don't even dare.

Luxury, as not necessarily a pressing need?

I'd say RB and TE.

I agree with Blues on a K late in the draft.

I look at a splurge as a position that won't be missing a starter or key role player(someone playing at least half the snaps) for at least 2 years.

That would be:
QB(Brees at least 3 more years)
HB(Thomas and Robinson at least 3 more years)
FB(Freshly signed Lorig for at least 3 years)
TE(assuming Graham is signed long term, and we should have Hill for at least 3 more years)
OT(Strief and Armstead for at least 3 years)
S(Byrd, Vaccaro, and Ball for at least 3 more years)
P(Come on son. The Leg.)

So the same as your list Chad, except for DE because of the fact that Jordan, Galette, Hicks, and Walker could all be UFAs after the 2015 season, and Foster would be a RFA after 2015. That's everyone we have that plays from a DE spot.

More than likely we lock Jordan up long term at one spot after the 2015 season, but that still leaves the other spot in question.

I don't see them letting Galette and Hicks get away, and I think there's a good chance we can keep both(Galette will be harder to retain, especially if he hits 12 sacks this year). And Hicks has been playing more DT in a 4 man front.

So it would be smart to take a DE if one with good value falls.

Now out of all of the splurge positions, I like the idea of taking a HB most, followed by QB.

Thomas is getting older and Ingram will be an UFA after this season. That would leave us with just one young back in Robinson.

QB would have to be a very good value pick early(to give us options), but not a bad move late. I think Griffin showed just as much in his rookie year as Daniel did in his last year here, but that was still mediocre. I like the potential but that's all Griffin is at the moment.

At TE, I think they really like Hill, but we could do better for after Watson leaves(after 2015). So it's not really immediate, but if a good one falls, especially a blocking type, take him.

OT would be for depth only(Harris could be upgraded and Jones, while I like his size, has shown nothing so far). FB, S, and P would be completely useless(unless there is some beastly FB I haven't heard about).
