not the players we want or should draft, but "roughly" where do we pick, assuming we win both the next two meaningless games as payton always does to get the worse draft spots possible?

how many picks do we have this year? IIRC we didnt give much away last year so do we still have all our picks this year?

we will need a lot to do some serious horse trading to get wilson

We don't have our 3rd but may get good compensation for Sanders, Hendrickson, and Rankins and for hiring a minority coach...which I think is a 3rd or 4th rounder.

So my guess is if we win out but somehow miss the playoffs would put us at pick 17 or 18

1st
2nd
3rd (comp for coach Fontenot)
4th
4th (comp for Hendrickson)
5th
6th (comp for Rankins)
7th
(and possibly a comp 7th for Sanders)

Edited to remove the 6th round pick lost because Goodell is a count

Saints don't have their 6th rd pick either. Goodel took it away and fined the team $700k due to Covid protocal violations earlier this year.

While a fun discussion…..free agency, salary cap cuts from the Saints will dictate most of this direction.

History tells us that Sean goes BPA in round one. Just pray that we stay put and keep most of these picks.

Looking at the list of picks, this may be the draft with the most picks that Sean has ever had. Rather exciting.

Being forced to play with the salary cap for a number of years, I hope this is the draft that Kevin Ireland knocks it out of the park. The Saints need an infusion of young/cheap guys. And soon.

-WR has to be a high pick priority. LOTS of talented guys in the draft this year.
-OL will undoubtably be a pick or two, as it should be. Not sure of the dead money ramifications, but peat and armstead (while very talented) may not be worth the money looking at historical time missed per season.
-DT, LB, RB, safety. Kind of in that order.

I don’t understand why we don’t get a 3rd for Hendrickson. He signed for alot of money and he’s top 5 in sacks in the entire league. I’ve seen crap players get their teams 3rds for less…..

Case in point, rams got a 3rd for donte Fowler. No team in the nfl would take him over Hendrickson right now….

Right now, OTC projects the Saints to receive a fourth rounder for Trey Hendrickson and a sixth rounder for Sheldon Rankins — in addition to the third round comp pick the Saints have already earned for Terry Fontenot in the NFL’s incentivized minority hiring policy. A handful of other teams are predicted to receive three comp picks each, while the Rams (five) and Chargers (four) pace the NFL.

In past years, Hendrickson’s $15 million per-year contract would have been a sure third round comp pick for the Saints. But that new incentives policy guarantees third-round compensation for teams who lose a minority candidate to a head coach or general manager role on another team, which pushes highly-valued contracts like Hendrickson’s down below the threshold and into the fourth round. It’s the difference between picking at No. 105 and waiting until No. 142 to make your selection.

Also, it doesn’t really matter in this case, but Comp picks also take into account the players a team signed, along with the players they lost. So it’s not always “X player signed for a bunch of money which means they get a 3rd”.
