What about our interior? Any DTs on the market?

This is a big area of concern with LBs. Who is our second DT? Who is our starter for that matter because Ellis has steadily declined. Draft? Anybody we can target in FA? Our front seven needs some damn life in it.

I am willing to see how Ellis and our other D-Lineman play under Spags' system. Instead of occupying blockers for the blitzers to (attempt to) get through, he can go back to penetrating.

DT group is very shallow this year. Lots of backups and Aubrayo Franklin's and Shaun Rogers'.....great skill, but no motor.

If Ellis is anything close to his 2010 form I will be very happy. He was a pro bowl snub who did pretty darn well for having absolutely no help beside him. Hopefully Ellis can be restructured a bit so we can go and get another DT or LB.
There is Franklin, and Rogers, and an even bigger name/talent is Bunkley but he would probably cost a good bit.
Either way I feel that a new system could improve the defense a great deal on it's own regardless of bringing in new impact players or not.

i think we almost have to land someone in the draft.
If we are rumored to be trying to sign lofton, on top of Brees and a few other nick-knack signings, our money has to be low.
im thinking we can hopefully bring Rodgers or Franklin back cheap. My gut says that Franklin didnt like playing in the 4-3 last year. Rodgers, because of age and wanting to win, may be the target. Another 1 year deal on the cheap. Less than the $4 mil he took last year

Maybe under Spags the Def. can jump from a 4-3 to a 3-4 at times. It worked for the Giants under Parcells and the Bears under Buddy Ryan/Ditka. It also worked for the Pats when they won SBs.

there was a thread about Jason Jones from the Titans on here the other day.
A few other names:
Sammie Lee Hill (DET)
Albert Haynesworth- don't even bother with that guy, I wonder if he'll even get signed.
Brodrick Bunkley (DEN)
Derek Landri (PHI)
Luis Castillo (SD)- usually gets injured, played in a 3-4 defense
Antonio Garay (SD)- would probably be good at stopping the run but he's 32 years old, kinda would be like bringing in another Aubaryo Franklin only an older version though.

Jason Jones will be the better cheaper option, since I feel he kind of will lose money by being hurt recently, but more so because the Titans played him at DE instead of DT which saw a decrease in production.

I love him myself but am willing to bet there will be nothing cheap about his deal at all. GMs know what he can do and see through the wrong position last year.
Ellis is very iffy IMO. 2010 he looked to be coming on nicely. Last year he disappeared. If they do not believe in his future he could be some good cap reduction. If they do believe he could certainly be renegotiated significantly lower with more years. I wonder if he played with an undisclosed injury?
No one mentioned Tom Johnson. That they kept him after injury for so long says a lot of what they think of him. We need a CFL to NFL success story to add to the resume of little knowns to star players.
Won't be surprised for Jordan to get some DT reps in passing situations.
Mayock rates DT as the deepest position in this draft class. Even if no #59 someone viable might be around in the 3rd.
