I noticed several times yesterday that Graham isnt in the game on 3rd downs very often. We kept running a package that excludes him.. Thats our biggest and best target, I think its nuts to have him out the game on critical downs like that.

I was wrong. I really thought, while CSP would be missed, we had enough leadership from the coaches and player to overcome or even thrive this year. To be honest I don't even recognize this team right now. I saw Brees on the sideline looking confused. Now angry, itching to get back on the field.
I'm gonna watch every game like I always do, but I'm gonna try to think of anything else but football the rest of the week.

Defense actually played a pretty good first half yesterday.

I can't recall the down and distance, but I noticed as well. I constantly look for 80. He wasn't there in spots where I was sure he would.

If our defense learns how to fill gaps, we may be able to right the ship. That's a big IF though.

I just wish I was the guy selling CSP new tv's every week!

Most of these guys have been playing a while. I'm cautiously optimistic.
Strahan said on the pregame that Spags came in and said: "Guys, trust the system. It works. Just do what you are supposed to and be where you are supposed to and it will work". He said once they started doing that, then things got better.
Then Jimmy said "Yeah, but your Giants had more talent". frick him..I was starting to believe for a minute.

In all honesty, I think our problems on D are more correctable than our problems on O.
I can only hope that Kromer turns the OL around when Vitt shows up.
But our predictable and useless play-calling after the first possession probably won't change while Payton is gone.
On the other hand, I think the D is getting better every game.
Gradually, yes, and from a very low starting point.
But it might be just south of decent after a while.

The major flaw with what Spags wants to do is that it is predicated on the fact that he needs a disruptive front four. The saints haven't had a disruptive pass rush since the days of LaRoy Glover.

I liken CSP's living room to the sounds emanating from the basement when Ralphie's Old Man was fighting the furnace in A Christmas Story.
"In the heat of battle, my Old Man wove a tapestry of obscenities that to this day is hovering somewhere over Lake Michigan."

However, I think now, more than ever, the team needs its fans. We need to stick by them and lift them up. Be confident that they can right the ship. This is unprecedented. They will adapt and will adjust. We can't turn our backs and run. They won't.
Well said

LOTS of fans were in denial....I posted a thread during the offseason where I expressed an opinion that not having Payton was going to be a very big deal, and I was not sure why folks just thought everything would be A.O.K.
Of course, in that thread there were a few who bashed me pretty good for my opinion. I hoped I was wrong, as I am a fan and season ticket holder, but sadly it seems I wasn't.
Just look at Arkansas, different circumstances with a similar result. Football teams need their leader, it is as simple as that.

I bet SP is taking notes on the ones that are moving at half speed & no hustle. These players will be gone next year!

I felt like if we could stay healthy then we would be in good shape. We've had some injuries but that really hasn't made much of a difference. When your O-line and D-line are getting pushed around, that is really a telling point. We really haven't been that physical so far.
I mean I've seen the Saints do worse before but this is frustrating because we still have some serious talent on offense. Don't know what to say about the defense though. There were some QB sacks yesterday and some turnovers finally came. But in the end, we just got ran on almost at will. The D looked gassed in overtime, the offense just didn't help them out much in the second half.
As some of the tougher games approach, I'd like to see more fight. And maybe a substitution at right tackle. Why not give Charles Brown a shot? He played pretty well outside of the Rams game last year. He had a good preseason too, I thought.

I dont blame our offense, but the difference imo is our offense is not strong enough to carry our poor defense anymore.

To recap this season we either dont have or have a new:
HC, OC, DC, LB coach, Oline Coach, WR coach, GM, if it wasnt for blind optimism id probably cry everyday. Typing that out was hard enough. And i will continue to be optimistic every day until next year specifically for this reason:
These players are far worse off than we are. This is their jobs, their livelihood, their source of pride, their everything. And the last thing they need is an entire fanbase telling them to frick themselves and die because we don't win the superbowl this year.
Despite all the bullshite this isnt even the worst Saints team ever. Not even close. Maybe the most frustrating, but if you didnt honestly love this team you wouldnt watch every week and you wouldnt get this pissed (not you specifically EB, just in general), so yes its going to be a long season and yes its going to be frustrating at times but all is not lost just yet. This season is going to be one hell of an unprecedented clusterfrick to watch, and i am ready to go along for the ride.

Very nice post, and I agree.
I sat down and thought about it, just how much bullshite this is. I look forward to Saints football every year. This is one of my favorite things there is. I've watched some shitty years, but I've been able to see this organization finally grow and become a winner. We wait for this anxiously, knowing we will have a shot at a Superbowl (something we never thought possible). That window closes more each year, and we basically have had a full year taken away. I will watch every game and hope for the best, but this is a year taken from myself along with every other fan, and the team. To have to say that I will have to wait another fricking year to see this team compete is enough for me to want to find Goodell, beat his arse, and this piss on his face R. Kelly style. Now more than ever do I wish upon a miracle, for this team to somehow turn it all around and get rolling. This team is so hated, and I feel like we are all helpless right now.
From posts such as this, to the comments I have to read on ESPN, we are basically being laughed at.
Somehow, someway, I'd love for this to not be a wasted year. Until then, this is a nightmare I want to wake up from. Yea, I'm fricking mad.

Next year will be our year, this year just stick with optimism no matter how bad things look until your rage boils over and you swear you'll never watch another game.

Every true diehard saints fan.
