if he stays healthy and we use that good luck to increase his usage, then yes, his value goes up

so it'll be luck if his value goes up.

His value goes up over time, not in one season.

Just like Reggie's went down as time went on. One season doesn't determine a player's net worth.

So, we'll see 3 or 4 years down the road if Ingram was worth this so called EXTREME price we paid for him. I'm willing to bet he's good for the team, and the value will show to be extremely good. Draft for the future, it's worked pretty decently so far.

I think that we did pay a pretty price to acquire Mark Ingram. However I dont mind one bit them going out, falling in love with a guy like Ingram at a position of need, and taking the chance.
There is always a chance he may be a HOF'er one day.

Some see those qualities in this kid. I dont mind giving up next years 1st to give this kid a shake in our program.

luck may be a bad term. injuries are often a variable that cannot be planned for

whoa. go back and read my expectations. i said he's a rookie and those stats aren't to be expected this year (even though they are possible this year)

and as for prob, i didn't hate the pick, but i got worried b/c it was a signal that the saints probably weren't going to keep porter and greer for much longer. one is likely going to be out

No, he was picked because teams line up in the nickel over 50% of the time.

I don't think there was going to be any starter drafted at the spot we took Prob with. You take your best value. Depth at cb was still a concern... End of thread. And if your concern is if Prob will beat greer or porter out of a job, who gives a shite it makes the team better.

Is Washington that good? I've heard he's fast but how are his other skills? How do the ravens feel about losing him?

Washington is a good mix with our depth chart from 3-6 being that Prob, Patrick, and Torrence are all pretty young. Nice veteran guy to have.

If what media is saying about camp is true (i know, grain of salt), then JohnnyP may be 4th with Washington at 5.

I stand by my expectation that he will be like Deuce was to us. I expect him to have 15 carries per game, and behind our line he should have that 4.8 - 5.2 ypc you want. Ivory, who is a less talented and less versatile back, had 5.2 yards per carry last season, fwiw.

So with 15 carries per game at 4.8 yards per carry, you're looking at 240 carries for 1,152 on the season. Deuce had 244 carries for 1,057 yards in 2006, or 4.3 ypc in 2006. So even if his ypc goes down a bit due to usage, he'll still be a 1,000 yard back if he lives up to expectations.

Would that satisfy you?

Back to carry projections:

Let's assume that we run the ball 30 times a game (in 2009 we ran it 29.25 per game). If Ingram gets 15 carries, PT 10, and Sproles 5, we'll be in good shape.

I'm not counting on anything from Ivory this year, for what it's worth. I like the kid, but until he's able to at least put weight on his foot, we can't even begin to project what he can do (if anything) this season.

Doesn't bother me. I like our group as a whole as well as our safety spot with Paul Oliver and Amayo at FS... I think they add legitimacy on the depth chart unlike the special teams players that reserved those spots previously.

I know nothing about Oliver or Amayo. What upsets me though is that we have managed to shite on a Mark Ingram thread.

Maybe Chad can start a thread about how everyone disagrees with SFP's assessment of where certain players were picked.

Done.

I'm not that big on the Washington pickup. With both Patricks doing so well in camp (presumably), then Washington or Torrence will be the odd man out.
