I told my buddy there were two picks that I would actually get excited about. Bowers or Ingram. Bowers b/c of the potential upside if he's not hurt could provide a great speed rusher off the edge.

Ingram b/c I think he immediately upgrades and legitimizes our backfield. Pierre has been great and Ivory was good last year, but someone like Ingram just completes the circle if you will.

I keep hearing people say he carried 15 times a game at Bama and wonder if he can carry 25+. I doubt he ever has to that often.

He averaged over 19 carries in 2009. In 2010, he had another future first round beast Trent Richardson to help carry the load.

I originally said Julio, but since Reggie is gone, Ivory and Thomas somewhat hurt, I actually think Ingram will make a run at it.

I was ecstatic when we drafted him, I thought it filled a major need to an injury depleted RB core with a potential game changing tail back.

I doubt we'll see Ivory on the field until after the middle of the season, if we see him at all this season.

forgive my being out of the loop here, but how badly is Ivory hurt? Did I read correctly that he isn't even running yet?

I know I might've jumped on the bandwagon prematurely, but damn if he didn't look like a future all-pro when he was healthy last year. Absolutely tore up Tampa Bay and a few other teams in his limited time as our go-to back.

25 carries per game is 400 carries. Hell, 20 carries per game is 320 carries. Only like five backs had that many last season. 15 carries per game is 240 carries. That's also Deuce's workload in 2006.

And I think that with our line and with more weapons on our offense, Ingram can at least reach Deuce's 4.3 yards per carry.

But people laughed at my Deuce comparison.

for carries, here's my projections-

same as '09 when we ran the most, team 468 carries

Ingram will carry about the same % as deuce in '06

So Ingram doesn't have to have more than 15 carries per game. That is exactly what Deuce did in '09. So...

Ingram 15 per game = 240 totes

PT I go 10 per game at best, that would be more than he has ever done in college or pro. PT= 160 carries

Sproles has been very similar to Reggie in # of carries, Sproles= 64 carries

Ingram would get 1000+yds just at 4.2ypc. Certainly could get ROY nod with a strong team run

At this point I hope wrong but Ivory looks like a PUP candidate. Returning after 6 games would seem just about right to add another slugger to the lineup. This might be easier too cuz they seem to really like what they've seen of Joique Bell.

yes! that was my initial point... this isn't from any of us fans with our whodat glasses on. It's not national sportwriters that spout opinions without real eyes-on knowledge. You don't hear these guys talking when a guy isn't as advertised. They just accept him as a team mate with his strengths and weaknesses. When they come out with as much as you are hearing about Ingram it makes real excitement and anticipation legit. Bring it on baby

I was extremely excited when we got him. Some may have not liked the move, but I thought it was outstanding

Wednesday Mark Ingram

When they made the deal to get him I didn'y jump up and down with excitement. I thought, okay these guys have earned my trust being one of the best personnel building teams over the past five years.
Then I started to understand... Ivory still not even running and a possible PUP. PT declares himself 85%. I think they just gave up on Hamilton being perpetually injured. So getting Ingram was not a knee jerk reaction to the situation last year. He isn't just a toy added to Payton's bag of tricks. He is filling a current need and will fill a vital role.

I thought Hamilton was 100%? If Ivory may end up on PUP, wonder why they did not keep Hamilton through the preseason at least? Maybe they like Joicque Bell or Ladell Betts potential better ???

Bell has reportedly looked very impressive so far

Prolly somewhat of a courtesy to Hamilton. They decided he definitely wasn't going to be in their long range plans so they cut him earlier enough to try and catch on somewhere else. They liked him a lot but at some point you determine the guy just cannot stay healthy.

"I can't wait to see him play...he's definitely flashed signs of greatness. It's hard to just run up to him and knock him off balance. He's low to the ground. A lot of the times you get the worst of the hit"
- Malcolm Jenkins

"He's going to break tackles; he's a short, compact guy. He's very powerful. His legs are very strong. He keeps the pile moving. He hits the pile with force. He's going to break a lot of arm tackles, which is good... "He's been everything that we wanted him to be."
-Roman Harper

"I didn't realize how agile he was. He's got great balance. The guy's got tree trunks for legs."
-Scott Shanle

"His vision is very advanced. He's willing to make that risky cut to get to the backside."
-Jonathan Casillas

"What's surprising is speed around the edge. He can get after it. He's going to be dangerous."
-Chris Reis

"Now that you're out there hitting against him, you go, OK, this guy is the real deal."
-Jo-Lonn Dunbar

"Ingram isn't really the dominating big/power back that you're making him out to be. He's not a 240 lb grinder. RB is just not a value position in the league anymore."
-SFP

"FWIW, I think it cost way to much to get a guy who isn't that much better than others at his position we could have gotten in the 2nd. I agree he has a chance to be the best RB in this draft. Just don't know how MUCH better. If Ingram, Williams, and Thomas all hit their peak I don't see much difference"
-Jacks40

"You see, Ingram won't ever be the next Emmitt Smith because Dallas was a run first offense designed around Smith. There is no way Payton will ever do that. I think a lot of people are grossly over rating M Ingram because he is a SEC guy and they know him. I think he'll be a a good player. But they gave up too much to get him. Even if he is a beast, you don't know if they would or could have gotten an OLB and another RB that would have made a difference. Recent NFL history shows us that there is a glut of RB talent, there is no need to give up a high draft pick to get one."

I'll admit that I had my doubts about him after the combine for some of the reasons that H-Town stated, but once we drafted Ingram, I dropped those and threw my support behind him, as he's OUR guy now.
