Yet they ran the clock down from :26. We should continue discussion of incompetence further. Disgusting they chose not to clear up such obviousness.

It was 47 seconds when the reviewed play was blown dead. That's where the runoff should have been taken from

I still don't understand why there was a runoff. Can anyone explain?

The rule (a new rule?) is that if there is a reversal on a play with a running clock there is a 10 second run off. Where they messed up is the 10 second runoff should have been from 42 seconds when the play ended not 26 when the clock stopped.

What made it complicated is that the clock continued to run even though they reversed the call, I think normally this would happen when an incomplete pass is overturned.

Why should a team be penalized by running time off for the refs reviewing a play? Teams can’t challenge in the last 2 mins of the half. This is a questionable rule.

It’s meant to give the benefiting team basically a free timeout in that instance. That’s why it made sense to runoff 10 seconds from the time the player was down in the play.

The Lions lost a game recently because of that rule. Golden Tate (I believe) went down at the one yard line and it was initially ruled a TD, but replay brought it back to the one. There was 9 seconds when he went down and the 10 second runoff with no timeouts left.

The rule actually exists because the Saints got a free timeout at the end of the half against the Dolphins back in 09. Colston caught a pass and was talked at the one yardline with 1 second left and the Saints out of timeouts, but the refs ruled it a touchdown on the field. They ultimately overturned the call, but the review allowed us to get one more snap off before the half when it obviously would have ended otherwise. Saints went for it with the classic Brees sneak and the comeback was on. Rule was created to prevent situations like that.

Just by your username, I know you have little use or understanding for rules.

LSU would’ve won against A&M last year if college football had the same rule. The Aggies essentially got a free timeout because the refs didn’t call Mond down as they should have on the bad snap that was at first ruled an interception.

The NFL rule actually makes sense (although the 10 seconds is arbitrary, could be 8 or 9 seconds , too) as it doesn’t allow the team to take advantage of a clock running stoppage by the replay booth

The refs just didn’t apply it correctly at all in this case

Peirira and Riveron already said they screwed it up. The league will gloss over it since we won.
