I would much rather invest that pick in a DT or LB

The idea is to not reach. If Nkemdiche and Bosa are gone before we pick, only Jaylon Smith at LB is really worth that top 10 pick, assuming that's where we are. A'Shawn Robinson is one to watch though. Fits our need and if he is valued around where we pick, I'd like him as well. Hopefully we aren't taking the backup plan to the guy we really wanted once again.

I want to trade down every year, but we might actually have the ability this year. If an OT or QB is there and a team is desperate, we can move back 2-5 spots and pull in multiple picks while still landing our guy. Potentially.

I was moreso talking about taking an elite-level WRs early (i.e graded as Top 5 to 10 talent).

quote:

Watkins, Evans and Cooks were all 1st rounders in 2014. Their teams are all still miles away from competing for championships because there are so many holes elsewhere. On the other hand, Benjamin is out for Carolina this year, and they are moving along just fine.

Drafting a WR in the 1st round isn't why they aren't competing for titles, tho. The Bills and Bucs don't have a championship-level QB and the Saints roster is bad overall.

quote:

Go back to 2013. Austin and Patterson were taken in the 1st round, but neither has been the deciding peice to make the Rams or Vikings great teams. Hopkins was also taken in the first round. While he's been good, the Texans are awful

2013 was a bad year for WRs. Austin was a reach and was not an elite WR. The Texans are awful bc they don't have a QB.

quote:

2012. Blackmon is out of the league. Wright and Floyd have been ok, but certainly not difference makers. Really, you have to go back to Green and Jones to find recent real difference makers at WR. But those teams are good, especially the Bengals, because they are stronger at other spots.

Agree but neither Floyd or Wright were considered elite WR prospects.

quote:

The bottom line is that you can find plenty of WR in later rounds who are good enough for a team to win big as long as they have the important pieces around them (QB, OL, front 7-especially DL). The Saints are getting pounded at the LOS this year (on both sides of the ball). Until those issues are addressed, the impact of a new WR will be minimal.

Disagree bc our WR talent right now is bad. A good WR can extend drives and take pressure of a QB/OL, and subsequently keep a shitty defense off the field.

I'm not saying we should take a WR, but our roster just needs a talent upgrade overall at all positions of need. In our pass happy offense with a declining QB, we need WR talent from somewhere whether it's Round 1, 2, 3, or FA and it's painfully obvious.

My top 3 for the Saints are Bosa, Nkemdiche and Treadwell. Would be ecstatic if we were able to land one of them.

Love Doctson - he is a beast. I slightly worry about him being the product of the TCU air raid system, but yeah, he is a joy to watch.

He played pro-style at Wyoming as a Fresthman and multiple with TCU as a sophomore. He can play anything you want him to.

Just bumping to reiterate my backing of Doctson after his performance tonight (10rec 190yds 2 TDs).

Bunch of highlight clips here.

ETA:

Note he's not just an outside WR/"over-the-top" guy.... some key catches on slants and other routes across the middle tonight.

Really couldn't go wrong with either of those guys. Both are fighters with the amazing combo of skills and "want-to" that make them look like men amongst boys.
